what is the best chain and sprocket set up for my fj1200  for great gas mileage and driveablity. I once got 221 on  5.1 gallons. I kept the rpms low as possible and took off as slow as possible.

Dude, that is not very exciting...Put the calculator and slide rule down and have some Koookalooooo on your FJ!!!!! I think it is great that you are an FJ enthusiast but if mileage is the only goal you need a Vespa scooter. Tell us more about you and your FJ. You must have more in mind to own an FJ. By the way, 86 is the best year, great choice!
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Best mileage will probably come from an 18/39 sprocket set and IF you can keep it clean and lubricated a NON-O-ring chain would give you slightly less loss transmitting the engine torque to the rear wheel.  In the real world, a good heavy-duty O or X-ring chain (as discussed on this forum many times before) will be a much better choice.

Your FJ is yours.  Ride it as you like (if you don't get caught).  The choice of (relative) economy vs KookaLoo moments is up to you. :-)

Welcome aboard,
