86 fj 1200 the problem is after a 30 min or so ride and a twenty min off period the bike restarts runs about 2 miles and shuts down . First thought was debris in tank from bad kreem job cleaned tank out test drove same problem . 2nd thought was tank not venting properly removed flappers test drove same problem this time before coming to complete shut down opened up gas cap and it kept running so I still think I have a venting problem but don't know what to try next. Thanks for any and all help

G'day Stroscoach, check the routing of your fuel line. It might be kinking after sitting for a while due to heat from the engine. The fuel line routing seems to be critical on the earlier models.   Regards, Pete.

If them orange flappers are gone and you have no tank bag then look elsewhere. Line routing is a common issue and seems to be greatly misunderstood,
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

make sure that the vacume line going to the petcock is not collapsing from the heat and going flat.

aftermarket vacume line is not adequate for the temps under the FJ tank.

also if there is aftermarket fuel line make sure its not going flat in the turn.

if the new fuel line is too long this will happen.

With all the talk about collapsed fuel and vacuum lines, I thought I'd toss out a fix for you.
Put a spring over the line. It only needs to be a slip fit and open wound spring is fine..  It will allow the line to bend, but won't allow it to kink.

Cheers,

The vacuum line going to the pet cock is after market but turning the pet cock to prime should eliminate this as a cause I would think. Also the fuel lines are aftermarket  and look to be routed correctly judging by the diagram I am a bit baffled at this point I can take the same ride and it fails in the same spot every time if I turn the pet cock to prime it will restart but yesterday even in the prime setting it was starving for fuel until I opened the gascap while riding and it regained power and I  rode the 5 or 6 miles home I really love riding this bike but not very fun if your on the side of the road Thanks alot for your input greatly appreciated
