My alternator on my 84 fj11 won't charge at all. I've checked my wirings and they are all intact. I brought it to this guy that repairs alternators. He told me that he worked with the carbon brushes and replaced a diode..  It still won't charge. Any thoughts on this? TIA

Trouble shooting 101. If you have proven that the alternator is working to spec. and the problem persists....Then look further down the chain. Something is preventing the ALT from returning power to the battery. Follow the trail/wires/schematic to the next potential trouble spot. Try the simple/easy stuff first. Then work your way into more difficult. Remember to STOP when you solved the problem. Over solving is dangerous for many and should be left for trained professionals.

Regulator/rectifier thingy.

If you've got the schematic and can read it, start poking about.  Otherwise, find someone who can.  Electrical problems are usually the easiest things to troubleshoot (unless they're intermittent, then they're a bastard).
