When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

The only thing I can think of is poor ring sealing which in turn pressurises the crank-case forcing oil up the crank vent pipe into the air box?

Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Make sure your petcock is shutting off.
The most common reason for this problem is gasoline overflowing from the carbs into the crankcase.
If you add a gallon or two of gasoline to the crankcase, it then blows back into the airbox as an oily/gas mix.
Check your oil sight glass on the clutch cover. Good chance your oil will look very clear and no air bubble at the top of the window.
