Has anybody took out the guts of their muffler, and if anybody did how did it sound.I took mine apart and I have never seen so much crap in a muffler. No wonder it sounds like shit.

Hey Buddy, Yeppers, in my Kerker and in both my Cobra F1 slipons, it looks like they used cow manure as packing.
Actually they just used fiberglass, and after time that material clumps up and blows out the pipes.

If you want to repack only one time and have it last for a lifetime, don't use fiberglass..... use the heavy scrubble stainless steel for packing.  I bought mine at Burns Stainless, IMO the makers of the finest exhaust system merge components in the world: http://www.burnsstainless.com/sm-scrubble.aspx
About 1.5 to 2 bags per can is needed.  Wear gloves 'cause that shit is SHARP.
The only down side that this stainless steel packing is about 2 lbs per can heavier than fiberglass packing.  No biggie for me.

Cheers! Paddy

Yep, Pulled mine apart and thought - what the hell - decided to leave the baffel and packing out, put the end cap back on and started it to see what it sounded like - not bad, mabe a little loud for some people but imo sounded nice to me. Been riding it that way for several months now.

Thinking about gutting the entire cannister and building my own baffel system.

I have never seen a muffler so resricted like that.I had thought about removing the packing but not sure about noise.I actually cut my can down some,I like the looks of the short mufflers.Im not sure why the muffler had to be so damne long.

Because it's bloody hard to cut one longer, and at least some of us think the short muffler thing looks really, really bad!

The SSR2 ain't a good piece though.  It's a cruddy design, doesn't flow all that well, and falls apart to boot.  But if yours goes straight through, you can repack it and make it sound quite a lot better.  You can also change the size of the internal perforated tube, or you can coat the interior of the body with something to help dampen the high-frequency ringing from it (which is a big part of why carbon mufflers tend to sound so throaty... no ringing!).
