i was thinking about putting the 1314 kit in my spare motor.
but was just wondering if the stock rods and crank would be up to the task
just motor no spray, it will be in my drag bike, with a pretty much stock head
would like some advice, will it hold up shifting at 10k, not really familiar with the fj1100 yet.
I have a picture in the gallery of it and me, so you can see it's got alot to haul  :yahoo:

Somewhere on the net you will find "Black Thunder", a ~$35,000 FJ1200 with a blower and NO2. The owner claims 350hp and tire smoke in any gear at will. I would venture a guess and say yes the crankshaft and rods will probably take it. Anyone else...? Andy?

I recommend changing over to the XJR1250 rod. The rods were redesigned making the big end and beam stronger and the small end is lighter.

If you're talking about the FJ that used to belong to Jon Jarosz, Black Sunshine, it was parted out long ago...  IIRC, he had Carillos in it, and crank work as well.  Notes are in the old Netpath archives, somewhere...

From what I've read/seen, stock rods should hold up if they're in good shape, unless you go into an overrev (i.e., nothing happens when you hit the shift button).  Don't know if the crank or the rods would let go first, though!  And ffs, you'll have it apart, do the head while you're in there and gain another tenth! :)

For comparison, there's a gent out there with a 400+ turbo who's having no issues on carrillo's, but he's also not shock loading things on a car tire, either.

Black Sunshine, pre-disaster...

the head has already been done, looks like a freshen up job with the ports and intakes matched,
it ain't too serious because the shims are still on top, it's also already a 1220cc but of course that waas a fj11 block
the engine in the bike is identical, so well see what she'll run with a 300 pounder mounted up lol lol lol
thanks for the replies  fellas

I used Carrillo A beams in my 1314. Lighter than the h beams and plenty strong enough. I have used polished, balanced and shotpeened stock rods with ARP bolts with no problems up to 1250cc.

thanks for all the replies ,
i've about decided to just get a stage III port job done by star racing, it seems like it's just hard to beat that
head work, the engine is fresh 1220cc anyway, the previuos owner put 40mm lectrons on it, AND THE bIKE IS REALLY RICH, so i have got to work that out, i,ve yet to actually go down the strip on the bike, it maybe enuff for a play bike  the way it is
thanks agian

From old information on the old-ass netpath list.

QuoteHey - Yamaha told me the connecting rods were only good for 170
horsepower, and they've held up THIS long (touching wood)...

And some more shots on the bike pictured above:

As I recall, the motor let go but it wasn't diagnosed that I could find (headgasket and/or blower seals were blamed, i think).  After a bunch of searching, I gave up.  Will let you know if I find out more about it.

IIRC Andy (and my memory I guess was faulty on the rods), it sneezed back through the blower and broke things very much badly.   :morning2:

How was the coffee?

Coffee was so good that i started drinking champagne almost immediately after (and no, I'm not kidding!).  You're right on what happened, but there was never really a good post-mortem done, if it broke rods/crank/head/etcetcetc.  Seals in the blower let go, head gasket may have gone, etc, but sounded like a backfire mostly.

Rods and crank were stock on Jon's FJ, he just emailed me back.  Sends his love to the old netpath listers.

XJR rods are definitely superior.
Late model FJ rods will work though too.
Have them gorund, shot peened, and cryodized
ARP rod bolts to finish them off.

they'll last forever in a naturally aspirated engine.
