.595" square stock comes out of the backrest at about a 30* angle and is about 5" long.

The pad is about 8" wide and 10" high.

I'm assuming your corbin seat has the receiver for the backrest?

This is what I'd made out of my second seat to fit the cobin back rest as the cobin seats are hard to find in NZ. Made to encourgae "she who must be obeyed" to come riding!!

Hey, Mark's Corbin has 2 holes! Mine only has one, I feel less.. uh, satisfied. Can you drill other holes to adjust the height?

Mark, where did you find that seat? The reason I ask is that yours appears to be covered just the same as mine, and I can't recall ever seeing another Corbin seat with that same cover. I'm fairly sure it's vinyl and not leather. Mine also has a tag (very worn) at the back which reads "YAMAHA - by Corbin". I'm thinking PO bought this seat with the bike 19 years ago.

Unfortunately, mine doesn't have that sweet backrest.

Yamaha had Corbin seats in the accessory catalog for the FJ and FZR back in the day, as well as seat/tail bags from Eclipse and soft saddlebags from Chase Harper.

I got it off a guy in Texas through craigslist.  If I remember correctly, he had sold his FJ some years earlier and had this seat kicking around--so I'm assuming that he had a stock seat that came with the bike??

Mike, now that you say that, I've suspected that the seat is vinyl , but assumed it was leather, being a Corbin and all. .  It always struck me as awefully hard for leather. It's gotta be vinyl. Damn. I feel foolish now. I bought a damn vinyl seat.  I'll have to check my jacket.  I'll feel really foolish trying to look cool wearing a black vinyl motorcycle jacket.

I've don't think it has any reference to Yamaha on the seat.  The little flap that covers the backrest says Corbin.  I'll check underneath next time I take it off.

Just as another point of reference: I had that exact same corbin seat that came with the 86 FJ I bought.  Same cover and backrest flap, etc.  It was on Klavdy's US FJ for years and I gave it to the guy who bought Klavdy's bike.  Same exact backrest as yours as well Mark.

Interesting that this is coming up. I keep seeing posts about Corbin seats, and mine doesn't really look like all of the other ones I see here. I used it for the first few months I had the bike, but I switched back to the factory saddle (which came with the bike) and I think I like the original seat better. The Corbin sits unused in my basement and I've often considered just getting rid of it, but the "not looking like the other ones" syndrome keeps me from getting rid of it. It should probably be recovered anyway; there's a seam near one's nuts that is coming apart, and if you look closely at the texture of the vinyl you can see where a crack is developing and will eventually split apart.

As far as the saddle and tail bags, my wife found me a set on flea-bay for Christmas this year. The soft saddlebags are branded as "Yamaha" and have a nice reflective stripe, but the tail bag (soft trunk?) says "Eclipse" right on it. I already have a Givi trunk so I doubt I'll use the Eclipse bag, but I have a buddy who seems interested in that for his VFR. The saddlebags seem really nice, though. I'd never seen them before, but somebody else on flea-bay sells banners with my an FJ of my vintage on it, and the bike pictured is wearing the saddlebags and they look pretty sweet. I'm looking forward to trying them, but with slightly more than 36" of snow on the ground (and more coming), it will be a long time before that happens.

Sorry; I didn't really mean to hijack this thread.

I believe that is the way Corbin seats were made a few years back, I was told they had a problem with the vinyl cracking so they started making them with genuine leather. I'm not sure when they switched but I have seen several Corbin seats with that cover.

FWIW, the leather cover was optional when I ordered mine in vinyl several years ago.  The front panel cracked last year, and a local shop replaced just that panel for $40, and did a really nice job.

For those that haven't seen one, this is what the vinyl Corbin seat looks like:

The delightful textured pattern:

This is the part I haven't seen on any other Corbin seat, which is why I originally asked:

hey Marc,

You didn't give me the backrest...  :wacko2:  BTW - I am sending the handlebar straps back to you this week.

All - Klavdy's old ride is back together and went for a test ride on Sunday.  Found the right front rotor is bent, so she's down again waiting on parts.  Should be here Friday  :good2:

Exciting ride so far...
