Hey everyone,
I live in the Illinois Quad Cities and have been a Yammie owner most of my life. Started in 73 with a lt3 100 enduro ,later on a 79'' XS 1100, then to an 83'  Venture Royale to a 86 V-Max to a 99' Roadstar that I just sold last fall. Thought I could go without a bike and found out otherwise within a few weeks. I'm mulling around the idea of purchasing a pristine 89' FJ 1200 Dark blue and Gold with 12,000 miles for $2,500.00 or best. I've been looking at FJR 1300's and Next Gen Ventures, but this looks really tempting. What should I look out for and does this price seem in line for this bike?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome !

I personally think the 89 is a great year model to own.... 12K miles is almost brand new!

not too many issues with the FJ but with the age of the bike i would check the clutch for proper actuation and if it's questionable look for peeling paint under the clutch slave cylinder (left hand side of the engine above the oil filter) it could indicate that a slave rebuild is in order. Not expensive to do and definitely would not let it turn me away from a cherry12K mile FJ .

only other issue i can think of to check is if the bike jumps out of 2nd gear on hard acceleration which could indicate a bent shift fork.

good luck on your search!

Welcome oneno,

I paid a couple of hundred less than that 3 years ago for the same bike, in decent shape, but with 45,000 miles.  I haven't regretted a minute.  They are very dependable bikes overall, straight forward to work on, and the availability of parts when needed is very good.  They are a great value.  I think you've found a very good deal.

Welcome Oneno

Sounds like you found a gem, the experts voted the 89' (88-90) models the most beautiful of all the FJ's
