Air leak at the carbs?  Look for a cracked vacuum hose, else cracked carb boot.  O rings on the carb boots can leak air too.

Vernon

Thanks hpras. Will check the carbs out laer.

Vernon

Hpras, do you have any idea where I can get hold of a front mudguard for my FJ1100 perhaps. Here in South Africa I don's seem to have had any luck in finding one.

Harvy

Welcome to the campfire Vernon.

Is it a backfire, or just popping out the exhaust?........ the latter can be just a matter of it being slightly rich, or an air leak into the exhaust system.

You can sometimes find a front mudguard on ebay (rarely), or someone here may have one on a bike they are parting out. Alternatively, there a are few place making them still.......here is one:

Don't worry about the year model....they were all the same.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Gee thanks for the advice Harvey
It turned out that there was a leak in my exhaust system, hence the popping sound from the pipe. Had it fixed p and the motor runs smoothly again. I appreciate your advice, you were really spot on.
Take care and enjoy your FJ, I certainly enjoy mine a lot. Its summer here in South Africa now and real biking weather.

Excellent Vernon...... is good to have win every now and again.

There are 3 or 4 other members on the forum from your corner of the world.... I'm sure they will give you a shout sooner or latter.

Yes summer here too mate. I'm in Queensland Australia....... we don't really have much of a winter here, so riding all year round...... the FJ only gets a rest when its raining excessively. There are a heck of a lot of people to the north and west of me who couldn't ride even if they wanted too, with all the floods we are having at the moment.

Cheers

Hi there Harvey
Yes I have seen in the news about the flooding in Australia, quite bad in places. I have never been to your side of the world but have family on my wife's side in Queensland. thye really enjoy the weather and says its much the same as here back home.

Getting back to my FJ, I think that they are remarkable machines and only a pleasure to ride. My wife does not ride so I'm mostly one up, enjoying the torque and brute power of that heavy machine. Handling is great too and I have had many good hours on her. Our roads are long and winding and our nature and wildlife something out of this world.

Enough chatting, my beer is getting warm ...

Nice FJing
