07 BMW r1200rt.

Test rode each of the big 3 (ST,FJR,RT) and liked the RT best, so I bit the bullet.  brought it home yesterday.   If I turn into a snobby peckerhead now you'll know why.

Oooh!  You and nobby can now be snobby together!  Nice looking machine!  Looks like it is meant for big trips....like...say to the West Coast Rally next June...

markmartin

Nice lookin' bike Dan.  Were you looking for a solo ride or is this for riding 2-up?

No worries Dan.  Nobby and I swithed bikes for the ride from the campground to breakfast at the NE Rally.  I didn't feel a bit snobby pulling into the local salt-lick on the 'Beemer'.  ....a little Euro, but not snobby.  Enjoy!

ddlewis

Yeah, maybe ol snobby Nobby will ride with me again now..  it's been a few years since he's come south.

I don't see west coast rally in the cards this year (son graduating in early June) but this bike would be great for a cross country ride.  raise the windshield, set the cruise and let the miles roll by.

Looking to do some more two-up riding with my wife and wanted something a little cushier.  The RT handles really well, very comparable to my old FJ - even weighs the same. Not going to be as wieldy in the mountain switchbacks as the wee-strom, but in the sweepers it's great.

on the touring side it is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden.  I would pick it over a goldwing.  Can't wait to ride it some more.

Of course it snowed yesterday right after I got it home..  :ireful:

Private seller.  Think I did ok.  Not a steal but ok @ 10k.   (KBB tradein 10,500 - retail 14,200 )  I'd been bidding on ebay and dickering with sellers up and down the east coast prepared to fly out and ride home and this was about the best I was able to do.  Bonus that this one was close, Va Beach, so I got a nice long test ride first.  Has few extras (super nice seat, bmw trunk/tankbag) that are fairly spendy additions.  It's a Rick Mayer heated leather seat that is awesome.

Of course you know you can ride it.  We might have to find you a stump to get on/off from.  It's as tall as the vstrom.

Nice bike Dan, I didint know you were in the market for another bike. I'm sure you will be happy with the new ride. Hope to catch up sometime...

PS did you sell your XR 400?? I thought I saw one on CL in chester forsale and wondered of it was yours...

Thanks Eric.  I'll spin by the next decent weather day and you can check it out in person.  Maybe you'd like to take a sip of the "kool aid"  :)

yeah, I've been half heartedly trying to sell the XR.  I still really like it and it's a lot of fun but rarely ride it.. When I get a free Sunday or whatever and it's down to one or the other - I'd rather ride the street bike.  ( and not come back sore and beat up.  aka - I'm gettin old )

wow, very nice danny.  that is one sharp-looking bike.  you mother fucker.

That's the bike I rode out in CO a few weeks back. Does it have the electric windshield? The afternoon it was sunny I kept it down low and the wind was a lot like on the FJ. When the weather turned the next day, I put the windshield up with a push of the button and could feel the air become still on my chest. It was a super easy machine to ride. Really like the low center of gravity. Enjoy it!
