Bought these rotors on Ebay

Hello All,

I bought these rotors on ebay as they were advertised to be from a 92 FJ1200.  I went to the file section and found that the rotors are interchangeable with the 90 model.  So I bought them.  First, the surface had been sandblasted.  Not good but I think they will polish up after I put a couple of miles on them with Sinister pads.  

Then I started looking through the gallery to find a 92 with the same rotors.  No luck!!!  But I saw Bob's bike with a GSXR front end and there they are.

The question is, can I use these on a stock 90 front wheel?

OK Guys, not to worry.  I did some more research and found them to be EBC Pro-Lite rotors.  :yahoo:

Why were they sand blasted?
Used or new?

Leon,

There were used.  Only paid $50 for them delivered.  Had I known they were sandblasted, I would not have bought them.  But I think they will clean up well with the EBC "HH" pads I bought.  At least worth a try (slowly) as my OEM rotors are shot.

Good luck then, they may be a little noisey till they wear in!

Never seen that on a rotor, wonder what they were trying to remove/hide?

I also wonder why they would have sandblasted these.  The surface feels smooth to the touch, they are not warped or distorted in any way.  There is some light pitting on the rotor faces, but nothing to get your panties in a bunch over.  I already masked and painted the inner carrier gold and used the new rear HH pad to see if I could bring a shine up at all and it did. However, as they are brake parts, I will take extra care and caution when first venturing out with them.

I run a similar rotor on my supermoto and the alloy EBC uses rusts very quickly. Apparently they went with a fairly low nickel alloy to improve braking performance over cosmetics. I have blasted mine a few times simply to remove surface rust and prevent contaminating the brake pads as strong fade free brakes are very important on the supermoto bikes. I generally either bead blast or hit the rotors with brake clean and a scotch brite pad every time I change out the pads or the rotors have notable surface rust.

Best guess is that the rotors were a little rusty and the seller decided to spruce them up for the sale.

(BTW I use glass bead as it does not mar the surface as bad as sand.)

You may want to use a little WD-40 on them to keep them from rusting...

Got my GSXR Wheel together, but still got 1K miles left on the old D205.  So it looks like the write up on the wheel will have to wait till I wear the D205 out.  Might just take a month or so.......
