Anyone removed front fairing and installed a big round headlight ?

I`ve got a 1986 Fj1100. My main fairing has several cracks, one or more of the previous owners has tried to fix it with what looks like a mix of melted plastic and some black, soft stuff that looks like silicone or something....
I`m afraid that if I remove the fairing, it will just fall apart into god knows how many pieces, so my question is:
If I remove it, is it possible to keep the instrument panel in it`s place, and is it possible to fit a big round headlight at about the same height as the the original light used to be ? I`ve seen a few FJ streetfighters with twin headlights, but I don`t think that looks good. I`d like a more classic looking front. I`d love to see a photo of what it would look like, and maybe some tips on how to do this correct ?
Thanks again!

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Hello Alfred, a couple of years back there were pictures of a really bitchen black FJ street fighter....I wonder if anyone can find them?   Marsh?

In the meantime, have you seen this site?  http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/

How about 2 BIG ass headlights? Baja style.

Or perhaps, two smaller ones?

Or perhaps two smaller lights with a mini-fairing?

Yes, I`ve seen the fjmods-site- no round headlights there, though... FJAussie`s making a caferacer out of his bike. Maybe I`ll just have to wait to see how he deals with it ? Thank you for helping me out, Pat!

The fairing with the gauges is quite heavy does any one know what they weigh.
