Probably a solid-state flasher or some resistance in the circuit.

LEDs don't have enough resistance to make a mechanical flasher work.

Adding resistance is probably the easier way to go on the FJ, else you have to engineer a way to retain the self canceling feature, or lose it.

How many resistors do I need what size and how do I wire them in.I put up some pics in the gallery signals are about the size of a bic lighter.

When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Leds are polarity sensitive, so switch the leads and see if they light at all.

A heavy-duty truck (read: semi) flasher unit will work, and is available locally.

They do light I tested them at the battery.I will figure it out I think I need the resistors. :drinks:

Turn signals are working I used the old turn signal bulb as a resistor.

So you jumped out of the frying pan and back in to the same frying pan...Kind of...Your resistor (the bulb) is gonna burn out and your LEDs will stop blinking. Why not measure the resistance of the bulb and put in equal resistance that won't lose a filament some dark night? Or is this just temporary? :scratch_one-s_head:
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

In the last 25 years, I have replaced 1 brake/tail light bulb.

I switched to LED taillights in the FJ's tail because I was going through at least one per week.  Depends on your riding, roads, luck, etc etc.

My '89 has 74k miles, and I've replaced the right side one several times.

AFAIK, the left one is still the original.      :scratch_one-s_head:

The Stanley bulbs from the dealer seem to last the longest.

I am interested, how can we work this out?
