Hey All,

G'day from down south, Marty from Wollongong Au (Blue 91 roughy)

I was actually going to sell the bike but Sunday night I got a beer and sat in the Garage and thought about it.  I really couldn't come up with a good reason to send it to a new home so I think the wife is just going to have to save her own money for that new couch from Freedom she wants.

But I need to do a couple of Mods to the bike to be happy with it.

The motor is ok and she pulls quite hard with no smoke all the way to redline but its the stopping part I've found a little worrying.

1) whats the best options on the brakes to help it pull up better - its completely standard at the moment 

2) rear wheel conversion to 17" - which is easiest I am mechanically "CHALLENGED" but I do want something a little stickier on the back

3) When I do the brakes is the Front wheel conversion to wider rims worth the effort- anyone got some feedback and again which is easiest

SBS HH+ pads (not Kevlar) are a huge improvement to the stock setup. Better yet are a set of R1/R6 front calipers and a 14mm master cylinder...direct bolt-on for your year. Not the later radial type...I'm still running the '89 stockers on my '86 with '89 forks, and I'm quite OK with that.

Much to be had on E-Bay, for cheap.

Howdy Marty... I put the 88FZR front wheel on my 90 and it definitely made a difference, don't know if was worth the $$ it cost, but I like it. I prob'ly should have tried it with an Avon, which is what I ran on the 3" wheel, but I wanted good rubber, so I put Michelin Pilot CT2s on. I don't know if it's the wheel or the rubber, or both... but I'm happy.

Plus one from me on the r1 calipers, 14 mm master and 87-88 FZR front wheel.  :good2:  I have an 86 , it made a huge difference.  For rear, the two easiest conversions would be the GSXR or YZF 600r. For the GSXR its just some washers for spacers an offset countersprocket and figuring out where to mount the caliper stay. For the YZF, a little machining on the spacer, caliper mount, and the cush drive where the sprocket mounts to it. I'm going with the YZF conversion mostly because I got a good deal on the parts and I have a friend that will do the machining. I'm just waiting to wear out the 16" rear tire thats on the bike now. Should be toast by June. There are sites that go in depth on both conversions as well as some more trick set ups.
