I thought my pipe was oem but it looks like it is not.It has a 4 into 2 header  where acording to parts drawings it should be 4 pipes then a collector. My head pipe has 2 tubes come together on top and two come together bellow the 2 top pipes. It has 2 mufflers in back which I always thought were oem but I dont know.Who made a headpipe like that ?Its one piece till the back of the collector where the mfflers clamp on.

Some pictures would be great. Might be a cool old vintage system from the aftermarket.

Interesting!

that looks like a supertrapp header with some home made midpipes splitting it into two.

nice........ i would have to put supertrapp internal disc silencers on it though    :good2:

Looks like a vintage Kerker 4-1-2 system to me

My best guess so far was Kerker but I have not found any info on a 4 into 2 Kerker yet.She eats up the highway no problem and the pipes sing a tune for me at the same time. Why do most members run a 2 into 1 pipe ?.As soon as i get my trans fixed (2nd + 3rd) she will sing even sweeter.Forks, trans and a new chain and sprockets are at the top of the list of things to do.

mostly we run 4/1 pipes because thats about all that has been offered in the last 10 years or so.

ideally i think the perfect street pipe would be the stock headpipes and collector with custom midpipes and  dual supertrapp silencers.   nice and throaty with good flow without having to run a wide open single silencer.

IMO the stock exhaust gives a more even spread of power across the revs.... albeit a bit restrictive but i believe that to be the silencers more than anything else.

there was a definite drop off in bottom end torque (below 4000rpm) when i first swapped the stock exhaust to a 4/1 but the kookaloo zone (you know where it is ) got much better

What you have is a Bassani setup -Partly. Looking at pics someone took header and welded a homemade y-pipe to header.  You can tell this by quality of the home made welds off header collecter.  Then Bassani use to manufacture what they called "Slip-on Silencers". The baffle was inserted into cylinder and you could buy them from 1-1/2 ,1-3/4,2,2-1/4 and 2-1/2 .  Funny thing about this is i was finishing a Kawi Elr that i was looking for a "Bassani Superbike Header" system that i ultimately found  but until i found it i have several sets of the "Bassani Silencers" that i fabricated to adapt to a Kerker Header. The main guy at Bassani is "Frank" 714-630-1821. I had him make me 2 sets of baffles- 1-3/4 ,2,2-1/4 and 2-1/2 for my Elr bike because i didn't know how loud was loud and also for tuning reasons. If you want Frank to make a particular baffle you have to send him example.  Bassani now only make pipes for cars and harleys- but if you send him sample and catch him on good day he will make.  I can take pictures of what i have - they are new in box - so you can see what you have.  The only help i need is how to download pictures to this site - I am a dumbass when it comes to this but i will try to post.  ALSO TO - if you need cones, megaphones and anything to fab-up your own exhaust system go to www.coneengineering.com  they are out of los angeles ca and this is where Kerker gets their raw materials

I want to thank everyone for helping me out  :good: I passed up a old FJ on 53 tonight I had to slow down to double check he was only only going 55-60 mph.It did not look as nice as mine but it was nice to see another FJ on the road.He had lower side covers on his bike and a little lugage on the back.
Im happy with the pipe and I like the twin mufflers.Has anyone run 4 pipes all the way back 1 pipe per cylinder.I have run triple pipes on my waverunners (3 cylinder) h.p. went up from 135 to 170 h.p.
Just learning this bike stuff so thanks again for everyone's help.

Ok -  I uploaded pictures into gallery under misc fj pictures.  You can see what a full comp "Bassani" system looks like - its on a Kawi , and what the baffles and silencer cylinder looks like.  If you decide to fab your own system i mentioned on earlier post where you can get raw materials.  If you are making exhaust system for daily use and want deeper tone a 4 into 1 will great - just have to play will size of chosen baffles before jetting becomes part of equation but - if you decide to create a 2 into 1  times 2 - Do not pair number 1 and 2 on one side and 3and 4 on otherside.  Cross over pipes 2 and 3 - so that 1 and 3 are connected to one side and  2 and 4 are connected for the otherside.  Much easier to jet this way, more responsive and no there bike will sound like yours.  As a beginning project you could use stock header because pipe bends and flanges are already done and just start your cutting and fabbing off underbends under motor.  Earlier kz900 and 1000s use this style pipe design.  Just take your time and tig weld looks cleaner than mig weld.  It is a little tedious ,but its not hard.  Good luck.   I also uploaded  differences in Supertrapps.

I also uploaded a 2 into 1 times 2 exhaust system that is stock on a 93 secaii 600 that i also have.  Factory mates pipes 1 and 4 together on one side and 2 and 3 together for the otherside.  Larger Kawasakis like 1 and 3 for one side and 2and 4 for other.   ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOWS WHICH OF THESE EXAMPLES BETTER FOR FJ?    This is if you go with 2 into 1 times 2
