Hello All
Well it happened I dropped my beloved '85FJ1100 and it pushed the brake petal into the clutch cover. Yes there is a hole and oil all over my driveway(don't care about the oil LOL). Ordered a cover but am concerned about putting the oil window into the cover. First, how do I remove said window from holly cover? Second, how do I install it into the new cover? Has anyone of you FJ lovers done this yet? I can use some advise. THX

Here's another question. Are the covers the same between the 1100 and the 1200?

Harvy

It would appear that the cover is the same for all years:

This Yamaha 3XW-W1543-00-00 RPMT: 3XW-W1543-01-00 part is also used on these models and components:
1986 FJ1200SC CRANKCASE COVER
1987 FJ1200T CRANKCASE COVER
1987 FJ1200TC CRANKCASE COVER
1989 FJ1200W CRANKCASE COVER
1989 FJ1200WC CRANKCASE COVER
1990 FJ1200A CRANKCASE COVER 1
1991 FJ1200B CRANKCASE COVER 1
1991 FJ1200BC CRANKCASE COVER 1
1992 FJ1200AD - ABS CRANKCASE COVER 1
1992 FJ1200ADC - ABS CRANKCASE COVER 1
1992 FJ1200DC CRANKCASE COVER 1
1993 FJ1200AEC CRANKCASE COVER 1

AS for the site glass....interesting question, I've never had a look.
The parts diag suggests that it is just pressed into place as there is no mention of a fastner of any type.

Maybe a bead of silicon sealant (the non aluminium eating kind)?

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

I installed a new sight glass in a clutch cover earlier this summer. I just put a very tiny bit of fresh oil on the outer rubber surface (and I mean a tiny bit!) before I installed it. 2000 miles and no leaks . . .

Very easy operation. Just oil the rubber section a little to help push it in. If the rubber section is still okay, then you shouldn't have to add silicon, but if you wanna be safe well then a little won't hurt.

Thx All, but you only listed 1200s, I have a 1985 1100. I'm going with this 1200 cover and try to get the old window out in one piece. If not I'll have to get a new one. THX again  Keep the shiny side up and enjoy the ride

i was going to fit a 1200 clutch cover on my 84 1100 but found that the breather was not the same and the oil return was completely different.
the part number for the fj1100 84-85 is 99999-02157-00.
i asked the yamaha machanics and they were not sure if it would work correctly, but i was not willing to try it just case it did any damage. :unknown:

There were three different designs of the crankcase ventilation system within the clutch cover. There are basically three major parts when you take out the four bolts within the cover. The black outer ring, the center Yamaha insignia plate and the ventilation plate mounted on the inside. The are not all interchangeable in mounting it to the bike.

With that said the center ventilation plate is interchangeable and can be mounted on all of the covers, so you can make your old parts work on the new cover.

I also have several used sight glasses if you have any trouble with yours.

OK The 1200 cover won't work so I found a used 1100 cover on Ebay. Should be riding by the end of the week. THX All for your input
