hey everyone! I just got handed an 87 FJ1200 for free from my uncle. Before that, he had gotten it for free from his older brother. The bike has 70k miles on it but is in very good shape for this amount. It also has a few modifications. I had to replace the fork seals recently so I installed progressive springs. It also has some sort of after market rear shock. I'm not sure what brand it is, the label says, "works". If anyone knows what brand this is, let me know! also, I need to raise the back end up a bit more. Since this one doesn't use dog bones, can anyone tell me a cheap way to do this?
In addition, since I have never been a fan of big plastic things, I am stripping her down and going for a naked/ cafe/ fighter look, I already have the headlight, gauge, and mirrors in the mail.
EDIT: forgot to mention, it also has a VH 4-to-1 exhaust.

welcome to the group :hi:

a hanmedown fj is a good thing.   A stripped down fj becomes a nice street fighter.

If any of the plastics are in good shape somebody here may want them, post in the parts for sale section.

Works shock is the name of the shock and doesn't have a height adjuster on it , you will need a penske for that.

Thanks. I plan on selling the plastics and my corbin seat here, once my mods are done, that is.
Darn, I had a feeling this shock wasn't gonna be much help. from what I have read, it sounds like the penske is going to be out of my budget. is there any other options for rear shocks? maybe from other bikes that would provide an inch or so of rear end lift.

I got a couple stock seats around here, what model corbin is it and want you want for it??

welcome to the group!

the penske sport shock has adjustable ride height and while still not cheap it's more affordable than a OEM replacement shock

Kookaloo!

Haha, I'll be sureto let y'all know when I'm ready to sell my stuff. Anyway, here is a pic of my bike. The original chin scoop was junked when uncle #1 bought the bike so he had this full lower fairing added. The whole bike is corvette red a.k.a. "arrest me" red. That will be changed soon enough.

Maybe someone else can chime in, but I don't believe those front rotors are stock.  Stock rotors for 84-87 are vented but not drilled.  anyone?

Correct, not stock for an FJ. They came off another Yamaha, Virago perhaps.
