I've never used Avon's before and have heard good things about them, so I went to their web site for a recommendation for my 1989 FJ1200 -

The "tyres" were ordered from the local Yamaha dealer (McBrides Yamaha).

They always give me a fair deal, one of the oldest Yamaha dealerships in left in the country, and they are FJ friendly.

Tires arrived quickly, in a couple of days.

The front is the "Storm II Ultra"

  • Storm 2 Ultra is an evolution of our award winning
Storm-ST range giving you more mileage and more grip
  • New technology is incorporated in the 0 degree belting
system and dynamic stresses within the carcass have
    been tuned
  • This new technology not only increases mechanical grip,
giving improved traction in both the wet and dry, but it also
    enhances handling and ride comfort

And the rear is the Azaro-ST

  • Specially designed for high performance and extended tyre life
  • Engineered to cope with the loads of a sport tourer
  • Superb all weather grip
  • Gives excellent mileage

They mounted easily. I did re-rotate the rear one once to minimize the amount of weight required to balance it.

Wheel bearings were good, easy drama free installation.

They took a hair over 200 miles to "break-in" or feel good. In fact, I was more than a little concerned for the first hundred and so miles.

Now, they are magical.

Seriously magical, they are amazing.

We'll see how they hold up, now that they are broken in, it is about time for a road trip!
