Is this a 1986

I've seen this bike in another forum and as far as I can tell it looks like 1990 not an 1986 as the poster claims. I tried to find color schemes for 1986 and most are the red & white. Was this color available in 1986? I asked the poster and he confirms that it is an 86?

Thanks for your responses.

Bet it's an 86 with the 90 body on it.

Front wheel and brakes are not from a 90.  Rear wheel isn't the right type for a 90.

Actually, it has an 86 front fairing - just with a 90 paint scheme.  The front turn signals give it away.

Good catch!

Still can't picture  someone intentionally painting it with the stock 90 colors like mine... maybe it was vandalized!   :sarcastic:

Looks like it might be a fairly nice paint job.

Although the lettering for the FJ and FJ1200 looks horrible.  Don't like the font style at all.

Colors look similar to my '90, but the graphics, and lettering are wrong..........It definately looks like an '86 that someone painted with '90 color scheme.

Yup...that's an 86.  Look at the exhaust mount.
Nice paint job though. I've always loved that paint scheme. Had a Buffalo that was painted in that scheme once...luved that bike.
My second fav color next to the true 86 though.

Thanks all for your contribution. I look at the signal lights and that's the most apparent differance and the pipe is silver, which I recall that mine had also, front caliper and wheel as well.
I asked if he had it painted or bought it that way and he never responded. I myself had owned 2 1986's and 2 1984's, so I thought something wasn't right with this one.

Dude why do you not believe me when I tell you it's a 86? Would you like the serial number to prove it?  small world, lol

I never noticed your other question about the paint. I just bought the bike last month. You can check my intro on this site for that. It came painted that way. One of the reasons I bought it. You can see some of the red and white on the back side of the covers still. I wish it was a 1990 but it is not. It will be getting the front end upgrade next season though. Atleast I hope it will.   :drinks:

Awkward...

Anywho thats a mighty fine lookin '86 man, good work, I like it.

*Edit: I sorta breezed over all the other comments when I posted this, and I disagree with the font comments, when I first noticed it was a homebrew, I liked it. Looks like to me like how Yamaha would have made a black '86 in '86. Not to mention its better than I could do, lol.

Thanks, but I can't take credit as I bought the bike that way. I have since added the lower scoop and the little plastic covers that go on the air intakes. The scoop was in rough shape but plastic weld and some black paint seem to have made it look better. I will post a new pic when I get a chance.

So that where the idea for my paint job came from.  The original owner of it painted mine like this.

Yeah, I am not real familiar with the various model years of FJ's.
