I live in the Denver area and I have owned my '86 FJ1200 since Y2K.

The vaccum operated petcock pissed me off for the last time somewhere near Avon, Colorado about 7 years ago, and ended up in a ditch. A fat rubber gasket now resides where the solinoid operated diaphram was. My bike never dries up on me anymore, and neither does my garage floor...Something about having your cake and eating it too? Ahh well I'll fix it all soon enough, I hope.

After a few years of owning my FJ, I heard the sirens call of a '01 FZ1. I loved the FZ, it ran so flawless and dependable. So flawless and dependable it was sort of dull. My back got so bad a couple years ago I could hardly walk so I sold it.

Well my back isin't bad anymore and I have more time than money so I have been slowly replacing bad parts on the FJ. I have all the oil leaks taken care of, all the electrical issues sorted out (thanks for the coil relay mod, I think that made a huge difference) and most of the bodywork repaired enough so it looks pretty durn tootin good.

Hats off to the guys that run and participate on this forum, it's nice having a "go to" place when I get confused.

Well hopefully this will address both of your posts. Recently a member (ccsct203)  sent a photo of his Pingel manual valve;http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2021.0

I then purchased that exact valve and proper adapter mounting plate for stock in case anyone else wanted one.

The ensuing conversation lead to me cropping the ball due to my recent back surgery in regards to a vacuum or electrical operated valve so bodywork would not have to be removed to shut it off.

I have called my vendor this morning after my memory was refreshed to find about about the above mentioned valves. I know that the leakage around the needle is a problem if there is no fuel shutoff thus the reason it was install by Yamaha.

So I hopefully will have some answers about the vacuum and/or electric valves later today. But if you are in a bind I do have the manual valve in stock.

As far as the float level the fuel level should be the 2mm below the bowl mounting flange.

 Thanks for the info Randy!

I'm not in a bind, the bike has been sitting in my garage for years, because I got tired of always smelling like gas and always having leaky carb problems.

I figgured now that I'm older and smarter I have a reasonable chance at making the FJ a bulletproof, no worries kind of bike.

As much contempt I have for the stock petcock, if thats what it takes to make things right I guess that's what I'm gonna have to do.

I am so tired of walking into my garage and seeing a puddle of gas under the FJ,  I thought for sure the float needle seat orings would fix it...

Ahh well what can ya do.

When my back was in bad shape, people would always ask me how my back was. I always said it's horrible but better than my front. It's funny cause I'm fat and ugly =)
