Not necessarily....
You can use your 1984-87 FJ1100/1200 anti dive forks with the '88/89 FZR rim if you change the location of the brake calipers (to fit the 298mm rotors used on the FZR rim)

For the early FJ's it's a Win/win... now you end up with a proper 3.5" x 17" (lighter)  front rim *and* the superior Yamaha monoblock 4 piston calipers.

thanks. I have a 1988 FZR1000 genisis exup wheel. Trying to fit it to a 1996 FJ1200. The issue is fitting the wheel central between the forks securely. The FJ speedo drive is too deep and pushes the wheel over too far.

A previous comment noted the speedo drive part numbers are different which I comfirmed and ordered a FZR specific one today.
