It's good to see so many FJ owners are out there.  I'm new here and just posted a question on my valve clearance spec and did a little intro there.  Just bought my FJ last month.  Wanted one for a verrrrrry long time but was busy being "resposnsible" with my family.  I actually lived in a gated comunity where it was against the bylaws to ride motorcyles, yes even street legal.  I got tired of trailering my earlier bikes that I would commute with so didn't have a street ride for about the last 15 yrs.  Last year everything lined up as far as the job (30 yrs UPS), my sons (both 18 or over), and my financial situation (way beyond recovery), so I asked the wife of 29 yrs to check into rehab or I was done. Long story even longer, she split!  Kind of knew it would happen so thanks to California laws, we each got half of my retirement, 401k, and everything they didn't take in the bankruptcy.  Cut my losses, moved to Utah and started over. Amazing how much better life is without that big so cal house and all the crap that was in it!  Moved everything I had left in a 6x12 trailer.  Life is much, much, better, still haven't worked again, and can ride the FJ when ever I feel like it.  It's not like I'm rich in possesions but in freedom.  Found a good lady friend and she loves to ride 2up so it just keeps getting better.  My bike is a 90 with only 16K on it.  Very clean and appears to be very well taken care of.  Vance and Hines exhaust, K&N filter, not pods, braided lines, other than that, stock.
So that's it in a nut shell.  I am glad to see so many knowledgable, friendly, FJ owners!  Once again, I appologize for any things that I might do wrong.  Let me know a and I'll do my best to behave!  Rubber side down!

Hey welcome feeder, I did see your 1st post re: valve specs and congrats! You posted it in the right section, a common mistake for the new folks. You're doing fine so no worries. Review all the info. we have (so far) compiled of the FJ's Chances are, any question you may have has already been asked and answered. Still no worries, DO NOT be afraid to ask anyway. We have some real smart folks hanging out with us here on the forum.
Utah has some beautiful rides which you FJ will excel. The right tool for the right job.
Also, good to see that you got out of a oppressive relationship and even moved out of a oppressive neighborhood. Do you know Bill W?

Next week we have our annual west coast FJ rally in Willits CA so, if you have time (it sounds like you do) I would like to invite you and your girlfriend to join us. Funny stories, tech tips and great riding with some of the best folks I have ever known.

Cheers and welcome again.  Pat

Welcome feederbb- Thanks for the perspective! Really humbling to hear what others go through, must remember to tell my wife how wonderful she is for encouraging(well, tolerating) my FJ stuff. As for my neighbors, they come over to check out what bike basket case I've rescued this time. I am very fortunate, and it sounds like you've got things headed the right way too! These folks will treat you right- ask away! Just beware the need for ever more and bigger mods- appreciate what you've got, it's pretty damn good.

Thanks guys, first Pat, would I know Bill W from Utah or So Cal?  Secound Frank, I'm sorry but the ex and boys are in NC.  I can't remember how close Greensboro is to Mooresville but at least I heard she's working so hopefully your not paying for her habit with your taxes!  I would love to do the meet in Willits but I'm fairly new with the bike and until I get more of MY money (she didn't pay her attorney so everything sat for quite a while, ON HER ATTORNEYS DESK) it's just not in the cards.  I come from a group of vet motocross riders in So Cal and it seems like for some reason  old bike guys are mostly good people, or maybe we all are equally sick.  Either way, if the shoe fits....  I did my valves today but I'll respond with another question on that page.  Thanks again guys!  Kevin.

Welcome kevin,

A 1990 FJ with 16k. You scored there! There are lots of real pros here to help you keep'er tip top.
I turned the page a few years ago myself. Life eventually gets much better. Just keep the rust off and get lots of riding in!

Thanks Paul, it was pretty bad for a long time watching your familly "degrade" but they all have made their choices.  It's nice to be the responsible one still, but just for myself.  I feel very blessed at where I am now and what I have, my sanity and a really cool girlfriend and bike.  I didn't mean to sound like my life was terrible because it wasn't.  I made my choices also and did the best I could.  Our past shapes us into what and who we are now.  Kind of like the shitty road you have to go down to get to the really cool, smooth, twisty one that you love to ride so much.  My biggest hope now is that my boys don't take as long as I did at that age to take the good road, but there again it is their choice! Kevin.
