stupid FJ question

 :wacko2: i know this is a stupid question and i should already know the answer. members are probably going to say that too but here goes. what does FJ stand for.    :wacko1:

The F means fourstroke in yamaha dirtbikes.  The J is an engine and/or frame type, I believe.

I loaned my book that had such trivia but IIRC F= sport J= 4 cylinder In all the early models the naming runs pretty consistant, but in later models It gets more and more spotty. (other examples.
FZ sport/ 4 cylinder liquid cooled, FZR sport/ 4 cylinder liquid cooled / race replica, FZR___R sport/ 4 cylinder liquid cooled / race replica, special edition competition.)

I think this is one of those 'beaten to death' topics from the old Yahoo group.  There were lots of 'guesses', but think the final official answer is that it doesn't mean anything.  Just a model designation.
