Hi all.
I've been lurking here for a month sor so, and figured I should pass along an intro.
My name is Kevin, and I live in east Ottawa, Canada. I just bought a 1988 FJ1200, so I'm new to the FJ scene but I've been riding for what seems like ages. I do all my own work, except machine shop stuff, and painting.  My passions other than cars & motorcycles are my family, skydiving, scuba diving and the outdoors.
Looking forward to the FJ, and possibly meeting some other members close by.

sounds like you will fit in perfectly here  :good2:  :bye2:

Welcome Kevin!

Thanks for the welcomes.
The FJ is hard to describe.
My previous ride was a tricked out RD400 Daytona that would make some 600 riders take a second look. The way that power band hit you in the head like a hammer, the way it handled the ramps of the local freeway, and that O' so sweet smell of Motul Ester 2 stroke oil!  And just think, no valves to adjust! What a fun ride that was. All I can say is if you laid into it in second gear in that sweet spot, you'd best be standing on the headlight. It was however murder on the ass on long trips, hard on gas, and it sounded like a bag of nails coming down the street. I also hated that I was always at the back of the pack because no one else had the desire to breath Motul Ester like me. Go figure that one!
Now, the FJ. It is best described as a locomotive. It could pull out tree stumps with the torque it develops, it's incredibly comfortable, and it can doddle along in the city in any gear just as smooth as you please. Oh, did I mention that this train has a warp drive!
Holy crap!! I was out on the back roads last night after pussy footing around for most of the day and just taking it easy. I came away form a stop and leisurely shifted into second gear, then I just rolled onto it.  All I can say is that I giggled like a little school girl all the way home!

It's funny .... more FJ owners than you would think have savored the sweet smell of premix in the mornings.
85 RZ350 bought new in 86 cause i couldnt afford the new FJ1200.   I've never regretted that purchase.

that bike could hang with a CB1100F up to 100 mph.    :good2:

KOokaloo!

Some of my riding buddies used to bitch about the BelRay fumes from my H2.

I'd tell 'em to go ahead and pass, if they could...

Welcome, Kevin
My RZ 350 passed a few Gpz550s down the back straight at Willow Springs.  Boy, I do miss 2 strokes!

The reason FJ owners are so great is because we realize there are other really cool bikes out there. I noticed that a lot of people on here have the same taste in bikes. FJ owners are motorcycle enthusiast and we look at all kinds of motorcycles, might even wave to at others.

I'm with the rest of these guys, the smell of real two stroke oil is priceless   :yahoo:
I went to the vintage race at NHMS couple weeks ago, and love the smell of two stroke race bikes. Some of the kids I race with just don't get it. It's not new, nope but a good old bike has soul and you can't buy that.

Oh ya Welcome Kevin
we all giggle now and then, long live the KOokaloo

Hey Kevin, another Canuck here from the east coast. I also loved the smell of two strokes and bought a brand spanking new 87 RZ350 way back when :) Raced it for a couple years and then kept it as my street bike for awhile before selling it. Sure do miss it now.

Phil irving ( vincent motor cylce engineer) wrote a book on ... well ... motorcycle engineering... good read.... doesnt mention harleys, ( well he does , one paragraph refering to them but basically pointing out that they arent realllllly motorcycles...). sigh. primitive technology, cant turn corners over priced boat anchors....( i believ that most of the riders fall into 2 categories.... spectacular tattooed f**kwits or showponies)... pardon my ignorance??? but its got a cast iron motor that wants to fught itself every stroke, oversized over wieght and well overpriced. and the ute to follow them is expensive. I HATE HARLEY RIDERS HARLEYS AND ANYTHING TO DO WITH H FREAKIN D. its all image. do you get free tough stickers when you buy one? and what was that about loud pipes and small appendages?
nuff said.      :ireful: :ireful: :ireful: :ireful: :ireful: :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:

Hi all
Again, thanks for the welcomes!
I knew there were more 2 stroke fanatics out there. I will probably get another RD or RZ some day as a tinkerer.
Tuxracer, where abouts in Nova Scotia? We'll be visiting friends in Cole Harbour & Halifax this summer, and my brother was born in Wolfeville many moons ago. My wife is a newfie so I have ties there as well.
My buddy ask's "whats  KOokaLoo"?. I replied, some day I'll let you try the FJ and you'll know what it means!
Kevin
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical fault.

Small world eh :) I grew up in Cole Harbour and after finishing high school, moved to the Annapolis Valley (Kentville). My wife was born in Wolfville and we lived in Grand Pre for quite a few years. We're in New Glasgow now due to work. Ahhhh your wife is a Newfie, God love her eh by' ... she would have asked me "Where ya to?"

Hey Kevin....welcome from Barrie... :hi:...
Yup gotta luv old two strokes. My first bike was a 1971 250 Suzuki. One generation after the famous X6 Hustler. She was ported, pipes, Koni shocks, Dunlop K81's..man it went like stink. My budy had a 73 RD 350, ported, piped and left me in its smoke. That thing ate 750's for breakfast....ah da good ole days... :good2:..and he lives just outside Ottawa now. Still has an RD 400 along with a FJR1300.
You gonna luv your new FJ.... :yahoo:
