Hi everyone, I'm a new member and have had an '86 FJ1200 for about 2years now. I'm a little bored with the factory exhaust. What I'm wondering is if the system from an 2001 FZ1000 will fit? This would include the header pipes and all.

Hello Chris, in short, it won't fit. The FZ has a different motor than our FJ's. The cylinder spacing is different.  Pat

What about an XJR1200/1300? I was looking for alternatives myself and from what I have seen they 'should' fit  :scratch_one-s_head:

I just ordered and installed the Vance & Hines Supersport v15301 for my '87 FJ. It looks great and sounds even better. The only problem is it totally blocks the oil drain plug. I guess I'll find out just how much of a pain it's going to be on my next oil change. Good thing I just did an oil & filter change before the exhaust installation!

Doug, I believe you can drain most of the oil out the l/h oil filter line attachment point in the front of the bike. Has been mentioned several times over the years for those who have a/market pipes that restrict sump plug access.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Pull the pan and add another drain plug if you need to...  Big pain in the butt once instead of every time you need new oil, y`know?

Doug
The V&H pipe is not bad to pull off and put back on. Takes me about 5 min. to get it off and About 10 to put it back on. The hard part is the 1 to 2 hours you need to spend polishing it up - seeing as how you have it off the bike anyways

Doug......... my mistake...... should read b4 I post........... not the oil filter line.........the oil cooler line is the one I meant to say.
So with the bike on the sidestand, and maybe aiming down hill a tad, most of the oil will come out.
