FJ12Mike

Hi,
Just buying a 1986 FJ1200 in the UK. It was a UK import in 1998 but not sure from where. Odo is in km, so I guess not the US.
Anyway, the colour scheme is red / white.....or if you look closely, its actually white / red because the colours are reversed from the standard red / white I normally see. I've looked for similar FJ1200s with this white / red scheme but can only find the red / white. (my bike has a white front fender so easy to see when you look)
Only other bikes I've seen with this white / red are FJ1100s.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Was this a very early scheme for an FJ1200
I'm no expert, used to have an FJ1100 back in the day, so when I saw this beauty for sale in the UK I had to buy it. Just not sure about the colour scheme.
Thanks
Mike

The bike with the colors in the pick you have posted was not sold in europe at least not in Norway .I think it was only sold in usa.The KM speedo may have been swapped out from a european version on your bike. The european version had the color that you can se  in the avatar pic of my bike .Bikes after 1987 had different colors i think the 1988 came only in black. I had a 1985 FJ1100 that was blue and white and the 1200 also came in blue and white in europe and the 84 and 85 1100 i think also came in red and silver.

Thank you.
Someone on a Fb forum has told me this colour was sold in US, Germany and Italy and maybe some other European countries, but not UK in 1986/7
The bike was imported into the UK in 1998 and speedo would suggest a European import.
Seems most likely.

Only the first year 1984 FJ1100's in the USA were red and silver, in all other markets the 1984's were red and white and blue and white.

That's an 87 paint scheme. Sold in the US and I believe Canada got the same color in 87-88 even though the US did not get an 88 model year.

That was me - your colour scheme may not have been available in the UK or Norway, but it was definitely available in at least Germany and Italy, as I saw one new and for sale in 1987 in a dealership in the Black Forest and spent time talking to an Italian guy who had one when I was at the Bol D'Or in, I think 1988 - he was camped next to us and I instantly noticed the difference in colour scheme to my UK model 86 1TX. The guy was from just down the road in Genoa and had the bike from new.

I'd be pretty certain yours is a mainland Europe import (nothing wrong with that  :good2:) - some (maybe most) of the "North American" market ones in that colour scheme had the red front mudguard and red wheels, yours has the black wheels and white mudguard/fender of the Euro model - I can't see anyone bringing one across from Canada (if it has a kmh speedo it isnt from the USA).

There's also a one that's just been imported from Germany for sale in Ireland here - https://www.moto4u.ie/listings/yamaha-fj1200-2/

With a quick search, you can find them that were for sale in that colour scheme in France, Germany and there are you tube video's of them in from Spain and I think Italy (here's a link to a Spanish one)

Here's the front page of the brochure for the 87 FJ1200 for the North American market, with the red wheels and mudguard/fender, but the otherwise "reversed" red and white colour scheme.

I like the white front fender on that version a bit more than the NA version. The reverse ambulance color is my favorite.

The 88 (3CV) came in Midnight Blue/Gold and Silky White/Marble Silver (1988 FJ 1200 brochure photo below)

The USA model with the reverse red/white ambulance paint scheme, had red wheels and a red front fender, so the bike in question is definitely a mainland European import  :good2:

Just posting a pick taken in 1990 with a cheep pocket camera of the white and blue FJ1100 i had back then. It was imported from Belgium and had orange reflectors on the sides of the taillight.
The white wheels and red on the brake rotors and passengers bar was just some painting i did   It also had a seat strap i think that had something with it was a Belgium version
