Hi All!

I buy and sell bikes in Japan and this is the 3rd FJ I have picked up at the auctions, but the 1st that I decided to keep (it was just so damn cheap - about $350). While is is not the cleanest of the 3, it was the one that ran best which is odd considering it was the one with the highest mileage - 84000 miles to be exact!! Its an imported model, perhaps from the States seeing as its in miles.
Whoever owned it before seemed to keep it mechanically good but made a mess of the cosmetics - covering it with stickers and no cleaning it.

So now I am gettting stuck in to stripping it down, repainting the frame (it has surface rust), cutting and polishing the rest, reupholster the seat, replace the screen (its cracked), get a better exhaust, jets and airfilter and then see how I go from there   :scratch_one-s_head:

Took her for a test ride on Saturday night via the Daisan Keihin Expressway, the Metropolitan Express Bayshore Route over Yokohama Bay, under Haneda Airport, around Tokyo Bay to Odiba then over Rainbow Bridge, past Tokyo Tower then back home to Asagaya, Tokyo. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=%E7%92%B0%E5%85%AB%E9%80%9A%E3%82%8A%2F%E9%83%BD%E9%81%93311%E5%8F%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:%E9%A6%96%E9%83%BD%E9%AB%98%E9%80%9F%E6%B9%BE%E5%B2%B8%E7%B7%9A+to:%E6%B9%BE%E5%B2%B8%E9%81%93%E8%B7%AF%2F%E5%9B%BD%E9%81%93357%E5%8F%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:%E5%A4%96%E8%8B%91%E6%9D%B1%E9%80%9A%E3%82%8A%2F%E9%83%BD%E9%81%93319%E5%8F%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:35.651283,139.686106+to:%E9%A6%96%E9%83%BD%E9%AB%98%E9%80%9F3%E5%8F%B7%E6%B8%8B%E8%B0%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:Unknown+road+to:%E9%83%BD%E9%81%934%E5%8F%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:%E9%83%BD%E9%81%934%E5%8F%B7%E7%B7%9A+to:Unknown+road&hl=en&geocode=FTXoIAIdd5VSCA%3BFTRQHwId0MJSCA%3BFUccHQIddFZTCA%3BFfilHwId4NlUCA%3BFTLMHwIdu4BUCA%3BFfH5HwIdcGdUCA%3BFYscIAIddFpUCA%3BFS4tIAIdiCVUCA%3B%3BFQLBHwIdBh1TCA%3BFZazIAIdePVSCA%3BFUG1IAId4u1SCA%3BFQS7IAIdIqtSCA%3BFbPoIAIdVJVSCA&mra=dpe&mrcr=6&mrsp=8&sz=19&via=5,8,11&dirflg=d&sll=35.650972,139.686227&sspn=0.002005,0.00327&ie=UTF8&ll=35.565188,139.668503&spn=0.51387,0.837021&z=11

Only an 80 mile trip but great veiws and the bike ran a treat the whole way. Only one minor hiccup... what seemed to be clutch slippage at high revs for about i second, but it only did it once. I tried to replicate it but couldnt  :scratch_one-s_head:

Next big trip is down to Izu Peninsula and camp in a cave on the beach then head back via the Izu Skyline - well known by drifting fans and locals!

Ya, I am a full time Tokyo-ite  :good2:

No questions so far, but I am sure there will be soon, after I get a better feel for where the bike is lacking or get the modding bug (as I so frequently do).

Mate, you are among fellow sufferers of moditis here!
You may find that the answer to your slipping clutch is simply to double up on your clutch diaphragm spring.

Cheers... not too worried at this point as I gave it a good flogging again after that happened and it didn't do it again. I guess the bike was just working out its kinks... its probably been sitting in a warehouse or garage somewhere for a while and not been ridden. It was out of registration for about 6 months.

Welcome Rom, nope, that's not one of ours.  You have a European model.... Note the back fender.    Cheers!   Pat

Cheer! Maybe a from the UK then... with the mileage it has, maybe someone Ironbutted it here from thre

I had made a small start - cleaned off all the sticker residue that was all over it, started cleaning the rust off and replacing missing bolts  :shok: and reupholster the seat. What I really need right now is to find a cheap new screen... any suggestions?

They were the 1st I tried and they were a bit on the expensive side. I have found a mob in the UK who does it for about 60% less... just checking my options
