Hey everyone!  My name is Ryan Im 19 and live in the lehigh valley Pa.  I own a 1989 Yamaha Fj1200, and also own a 1983 honda interceptor vf750.  I love riding and look forward to going to many different rides around my area.

Hello Ryan, welcome lad!
I remember when the first Honda Interceptor V4 750's came out.  IIRC the Honda Interceptor 500's were already out for a couple of years before the 750's were intrduced. I did a all day test ride on a 750 Interceptor back in early '84 before I bought my FJ1100. I'm a big fan of V4's, and IMHO, all motorcycles have got to be able to turn a corner, so I knew that the Vmax was not for me. Wasn't there something about the early V4 750 Honda's having soft cam lobes? No doubt that the Honda would have been quicker on the track, but for every day riding that grunt of the FJ1100 swayed my decision to buy the '84 FJ. I have not looked back. A few modifications to the old FJ and she's right in the ball park with today's bikes.

However, that being said, I'm still a fan of the V4 engine. When Aprilla releases their new V4 Tuono next year, I fear my Dodge&Cox stock fund will take a serious hit.

I know that this is a FJ forum but tell me about your Honda, how long have you had her? Any mods? Any service issues? Also while your at it, tell us about your FJ. What do you want to do with it? Compare for us the differences you feel between the two bikes.

How's that for a welcome? You introduce yourself and get a fuckin homework assignment!  Cheers!  Pat

My interceptor is an 83 with right around 30,000 miles I believe.  Its basically all stock except I replaced some engine gaskets and Im going to be replacing the clutches soon.  And yes they do have some cam issues were the cam lobes wear down because of lack of oil up top.  Fortunately for me, when I had some gaskets replaced the guy said my cams look amazing.  So I am happy about that.
As for the Fj Its an 89 with around 41,000 miles on it.  The reason I love this bike so much is because my uncles cousin bought it brand new in 89.  When I was young my dad bought it off him so I used to ride it all the time and then my dad sold it back to him.  Fast forward about 15 years he is looking to sell it again.  At this time it had 38k on it, The bike was immaculate except for 3 knicks on it all from rock chips and one from a zipper on the tank.  So I bought it for $1,600 and started riding it.  About a year ago a guy decided he wasn't going to use his turn signal turning into a parking lot and i slid into the back of him.  The bike thankfully only suffered minor damage(a few cracked plastics).  And I was ok.  So I took about 3 months off from riding.  Just because it scared the crap outta me, even though I only had minor road rash.  I even contemplated selling the bike but I didn't just because how much I love riding.  And thats about where we are now.  I ride the bike as much as I possibly can and even got my girlfriend hooked on riding.  As for mods the Fj has- corbin seat, ebc brakes and rotors, k&n filter, progressive springs in the forks and I believe thats about it.  Maybe a few other small things.  And as my plans go for it,  probably just try and find an exhaust for it and fix the plastics from the accident.  I also wanna take this bike to a track day just to show my friends that it can get around the track just as fast as some newer bikes. haha.
