I went to a local pawn shop to inquire about an FFL transfer then decided to take a look around.

Ran accross these. I think they are for synching carbs. Something I plan on doing... what are they worth? The price says $159.00 I can probably go lower as I doubt anybody will want them unless they have an older motorcycle that isnt fuel injected.

Loukiii,

That's a good line to try on the seller, but fuel injected bikes do use the same gear to perform a Throttle Body Synchronization (TBS).  The successor to the Yamaha FJ1200 is the FJR1300, for example, which is fuel injected.  The TBS is a routine maintenance practice with them.  You can check on several FJR forums, if you doubt.

A quad rig of new analog gauges starts around US$70.
A quad rig of new digital gauges starts around US$195.

Chances are, you would not need all of the accessories in the pawnshop box, but it could be a consideration.  Many of the accessories are missing, anyway.  Get the name of the maker and the Part Number for the kit, and see if Google can find the same item, new or used, and a price.

I'd say bargain hard (I HATE the pawnshop vultures), or shop around a lot, first.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Those look like the K&L gauges we offer for rent from FJowners. At $160 they are a steal. The price I show for those is over $300 retail.

Nah it was more of an impulse/opportunity thing. I might wait 2 weeks and go back and if it is still there I might offer $100 or something. Im doubt they got more than $75 in it knowing how they do when they pawn stuff.

Always try for a lower price....you are buying used equipment after all...

I like carb syncing with gauges better than a stick. I can lay the gauges flat on the valve cover for better viewing vs hanging the stick vertically.

Sorry, Pat. I should have said MSRP, manufacturer suggested retail price. K&L does not have MAP, minimum advertised price.  So if you want to buy it for say $150 and sell it said part for $150 you can do so. They are a probably a larger company buying at scale with better purchasing prices etc, etc. If you can sell a million skus a day you don't need to make a large % it all adds up very quickly. This is what kills mom and pop shops. For example, if I had to buy that for $219, keep it on the shelf and only make $11.50 at 5% I would have to keep 10 on the shelf to make just over $100. Sure I could drop ship it, they charge a drop ship fee say $5, + the actual shipping, say $10. I am in the red now. I might like red as a color but for a small business, it can be a death note. Larger companies on the other hand, alot of times, get better prices when purchasing because they buy on a larger scale, they get discounted shipping rates because they buy shipping at a larger rate. I attached a few photos of what my UPS account charges to ship something vs a friend of mine shipping the same box to the same place but he ships more than we do so he gets a better rate. He isn't even on their best pricing. This was a 12"Lx12"Wx4"H that weighed about 6 lbs.

Rant over. Two rants in two days. Back to my hole I go.

This is a used item so it does not apply. I was simply stating at $150 it still isn't that bad of a deal. They are a nice unit and with all the adapters can be suited to multiple bikes, quads, UTV, go carts, what have you.
