I noticed yesterday a puddle of brake fluid under my left front brake caliper. So I figured it's time to replace the front brake calipers and brake lines. I thought I would buy the stainless brake lines from RPM. Monoblocks are the Yamaha "Blue Spot" caliper s from the FZ1, R1, YZF 1000 R Thunderace, R6 - from the late 1990's up to about 2005.

They work with a FJ master cylinder, but work better with a matching FZ1/Thunderace master cylinder.

The blue spots are much better than the stockers.  I used the FZ1 master cylinder as well.

Edit: here is a pair with the MC for $65.  I'd buy those and buy the rebuild kits from RPM.

Using Militant's original search there are several options if you want to buy the MC and two calipers - all under $75.  So it looks like I was not lucky - they are out there.

Yes, those will be fine, at first blush you would think $235 to be a tad bit on the expensive side.
I've seen used Blue Spots sold for around $60 to $80 a pair.
However, if you wanted to be totally safe and rebuild them, then factor in the cost of parts to rebuild them (add $80 for 2 sets of brake pads and $80 for 2 caliper seal kits) you are going to end up close to $235.

Your oem FJ master cylinder uses a 5/8" dia. piston (16mm)
Get a 14mm master cylinder for the best feel from your new system.

Bryan's above post shows an excellent choice for both the calipers and the 14mm m/c.

The original $235 ones have unbranded pads.  If it was me I'd rather do the rebuild myself and control what parts I used.  Plus having the master cylinder is a real benefit.

Also, a note to FCBIII, when you change your brake pad compounds (like going from organic to sintered) don't forget to scrub the old transfer layers off your rotors.

What is the hot setup for pads these days?  I thought I had seen recommendations before but having trouble finding them.

I like EBC HH sintered in the front and in the back.
I have Galfer Wave Rotors and they warn against using organic pads with the sharp edges on their rotors.

When I had smooth rotors I ran a HH in the front and organic in the back.
