Oil Pump Install

OK, here goes the third try at posting this question (wonder where the last two ended up?!)

Is there any need or benefit on an FJ to pack the oil pump (fill with engine assembly grease) during a rebuild?  I know for cars it is done to ensure the pump is primed at startup.

Yes, yes, yes...

I use Clevite Engine Bearing Guard during my builds. After the pump has been cleaned and reassembled, I put this into the suction ports and turn the pump by hand until it comes out of the other side.

You need to have something in the pump as there is no way to prime the engine without turning all of the parts. This will ensure the pump will pickup the oil quickly and the bearing guard inside the pump will offer more protection at initial start-up.

Thanks Randy!  It will definately be done!

The new rod bearings worked - with the "correct" sized bearings the rods were "stiff" on the journals.  They felt just like the #1 and #4 rods did when I originally got the bottom end - and those were the two that spun.  It appears the Nitriding added just a hair to the journals.  Thanks for getting them out quickly!
