handle bar grips

looking for some suggestions for a good set of grips that will eat up some of the vibration. what size bar are the fj's. i cant remember 7/8 or an inch.  thanks

7/8... also, the stock grips are 135mm long, most aftermarket are 125mm.

Had this exact same question a couple of weeks ago.  Read this topic --> http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=1776.0  and see if it answers all of your questions.  I currently have the ones discussed and they are working great for vibration and grip.  Cheap too.

Ok.  Time to re-hash this old topic.  

MY HANDS ARE HURTING!!  I have had these cheap grips on for a while now, and have noticed that my hands have hurt progressively worse each day.  What I'm needing is a recommendation of the largest grips possible.  My hands are more than XL and wrapping them around these feeble little grips is just not making it.  
Also one other question.  Since the right "throttle" grip has the tube for the throttle, it is larger.  Is there any adapter available for the other side, so they can both be the same size?  Not only can I feel the difference currently, but it just looks plain stupid too!  Maybe wrapping it under the grip with something?

When I bought my bike it had badly worn out grips I made a 1175 mile trip with foam wraped round them with wraped with electrical tape.Then I bought some pro grips which were cheap and work ok but there not paded.Grips are the same size on the o.d. but the i.d. is bigger on the throttle side.

Not sure if that really answered any of my questions.
I thought of wrapping something on the outside of the grips, but there has got to be someone out there that has a real solution.  I don't want it to look like dog-shit.  Even if it means a little more money, there has got to be an answer.......

Look on ebay I saw padded grips there.I needed some and got mine at the dealer's they didnt have a good selection so I bought some cheap Black grips.E,bay or a bike store should have fat grips for you.

I'm really looking for someone that has specifics on what they have used or are using.  Of course I could find something on FleaBay, but I want to be sure that what I'm getting is something that will work and has been tried.

They have lasted several years now and still look good.  These definitely help with the longer slogs, and they look a bit less dorky that the touring grips.

Is surprisingly excellent!

I rode the 300 miles to, and then again from, the Adirondacks a few weeks ago, and the throttle rocker makes a huge difference on my hands and wrists which ached a LOT less than they otherwise would have.  Do be careful though, the Throttle Rocker takes a bit to get used to.  You have to specifically push you hand forward/ lift you wrist to roll off the throttle.  If you don't pay attention you can be applying throttle when you don't think you are...

My Gixxer is just plain ergonomically cruel.  Every mod I have done to it recently, Taller screen, 722 grips, Heli-Bars, knee grip tape -etc. have been about making it less cruel.  The grips and throttle rocker have helped measurably.

Bob, don't know if your Texas "winter" warrants it but the Hot Grips with insulating ribs are a larger diameter than most grips only. I've been thinking about it more as the evenings cool off. I've bought 2 pairs of Pro grips and get the too short ones each time despite specifying the longer model. Oh well. Dennis Kirk lists the Hot Grips as 5-1/4 long and 1.44 O.D. Haven't tried them for vibration damping, but fixing my motor mounts has removed that as a problem.

Dan - That does help a lot!  I had similar grips on mine when I got the bike, but had no idea what they were and where they were from.  Unless someone else contributes a better idea, I will probably go with those two items.

The foam covers Racerman pointed out are a good choice. I also considered wrapping my old grips with tennis racket grip tape, it's durable and it doesn't look too bad if done properly.

ETA; My grips arrived today, unfortunately they sent me the Galindo 130mm grips by mistake. I called JP Cycles and they told me to keep the Galindo's and they are sending me the correct ones at no charge.

Actually the throttle side grip is thinner, so the OD is the same as the left side. At least, every grip set I've ever used is this way. The largest OD grips I've seen are the foam ones....
