Exup Front Wheel swap?

I've got a exup 17" front wheel with 15mm axle.
I've been told it should just fit straight in BUT which discs will fit it and then which calipers....
I do have a set of FZR400rr calipers.
I've been looking and discs that look like will fit are 298 dia not the standard 282!

So will these calipers be ok or do I need Blue spots or what.

So much for just drop in..

Hi Sparky confess I've been going down a similar rabbit hole recently - which bit off which bike fits what....
I thought the EXUP had a 17mm spindle which is why I sourced an earlier 1000 genesis wheel...(tho admit i could well be wrong there).

As I read it - the standard 3CV 298mm disc will fit original forks with blue spots - I'm looking for a set of these discs now.

Are you fitting the EXUP upside down forks? Wont those be 320mm discs? These are NOT the ones I want - but if you're fitting to EXUP forks think these 'could' be the ones you need. Note the 320mm diameter

Don't know about which callipers will fit those but assume standard EXUP or Blue spot will do it.

I always thought it was a Exup front and Genesis 18" rear that were drop in replacements.

I've measured both hubs and rotor centres, they look very close.
And if 400rr had 300mm discs then 298mm hopefully should be good.

Apologies Sparky must be someone else I've seen on here doing that....one I might do next year...
As for the drop in wheels there's loads of options and I had far too much fun (?!) in lockdown searching on here, eBay and the net. Settled on 87-88 genesis front '90-'92 GSXR 1100 rear...

The '87 genesis front wheel I bought came with the 160x18" back
wheel. I did some maths and compared to the existing it raises the ride height by 12.5mm - I decided to go for the width of the GSXR 180x17"...

Yep, those 298/300mm discs all sound good
I'm just dry building now before painting the wheels - gold

You will need a "Genesis" front wheel.
These are 17"x3.5" and use the standard FJ 15mm Axle size.

The later "Exup" front wheel uses a 17mm Axle.

Others have found ways to work around this, either with bearing-spacers or drilling the Fork Legs.

To use either wheel on the front, and have it be a plug-and-play scenario, you will need later ('89-up) Fork lowers. This will allow you to use either standard '89-up FJ Calipers, or the later Blue/Gold/Silver-Dot Calipers.
You also use later '89-up 298mm (non-ABS) FJ front rotors. They bolt directly to the Genesis wheel, and puts the Calipers in the correct location.

To use either of these front wheels on '84-'87 FJ Fork-lowers you will need some sort of adapter brackets for use with later Calipers.
I have no knowledge on whether or not the FZR400R Calipers are a direct bolt-on to the earlier FJ Legs?

When I did my wheel swaps on my '90 I used a '87-'88 "Genesis" front wheel, and a later 17"x5.5" "Exup" rear wheel.
My rear wheel setup required some specific machining to the wheel, cush-drive, and caliper-bracket to fit properly.

Very tidy bike Alan; liking the gold wheel paint! (- what river is that?)

The dark art of bike / special building - bringing together a lot of disparate bike parts into one perfect whole. Most make it look a lot more effortless than me...and I seem to spend a lot of time staring at it in pieces in the garage floor & still find it quite incredible that all these bits of metal fit together to form interdependent systems that you're happy to jump on and belt down the road at ridiculous speeds....

So that clears it up, I knew it was one of each.

I've measured and they look the goods , bolts holes same and distance to disc looks good but I didn't realise about the discs being bigger on New 17" rim.

I had them powder-coated Gold, and then polished the lips.

The river is the South Fork American River (where the California Gold-Rush started) at the Coloma Resort.

The EXUP had 17" rear wheel, the GENESIS used an 18" rear wheel.
You must have BOTH wheels from a "Genesis"

The early ('84-'87) 280mm FJ Brake Rotors will not bolt to a "Genesis" front wheel (wrong bolt pattern). You have to use the later ('89-up) 298mm FJ front Rotors. (they bolt directly to the Genesis wheel)

Just to be clear,
When I state to use '89-up FJ1200 front brake rotors on the "Genesis" front wheel, I am referring to the (NON-ABS) rotors. ABS bikes used a different bolt-pattern for the front rotors, and those will not fit the Genesis wheel.

The Genesis front wheel also uses all of the original FJ bearings, spacers, and speedometer-drive.

Yep, clear on that rotor, Non ABS
Just have to order a couple, they are so thin, 4mm where as mine are still 7mm.
Hope they don't warp !

Alan, you can stand on those 4mm rotors all day long from warp speed with max brakes without issue.
I've done consecutive 250-0 max rate stops. I've even ridden down the road with plenty of throttle in top gear and lots of brake to see what happens. They get red hot but don't warp, amazing.

I need to get some of these myself; which type brand would you recommend - OEM style fazer 6 or the wave style - Skywave are a better price in the UK or Arashi which are thicker.
