Remove instrument cluster 92 model FJ1200

Hi

So - tachometer stopped working  - I have traced all the cabling (grey wire & earth wire) all seems OK.
I have got the fairing off, taken screen off, taken internal plastic off on upper part of fairing (inside) next to screen.
How do I get instruments out - 2 bolts look to be accessible from front of faring but the plastic shroud that goes around instruments seems held even though I've undone all I can see?
Some way simple no doubt - I'm just not seeing it.
I'm thinking I need a new (old) tachometer. Just want to check connections to tachometer (+V, -V & grey wire ignition pulse send) first.
Also I heard about a possible fault s needle gets stuck to pin in dial?

Remove the two bolts that go through the rubber grommets on the mounting ears of the instrument cluster then the whole assembly slips out the back of the fairing then you can remove the plastic cover.

I can see the bolts I need to undo but how do I get to the bolt which has to be accessed from other side - inside the fairing?
I've tried to take the instrument cluster shroud off but although I've undone everything I can see to undo it doesn't feel like it wants to move - it's still attached some how.
Or do I have to remove headlight ?
Pic shows that on "this" side the welded on nut - not a bolt.

WEJ, it sounds like your having a rough time of it. Can I suggest you undo the bolts circled below and lift the fairing, subrame, headlight, mirrors, screen, instruments.... everything off intact as one unit, as shown in the second photo.






This might look like overkill, but it literally takes about 15 mins from riding it in the door, there is nothing fiddly about the removal, nothing's hard to reach and you aren't risking breaking any plastics. Once you have it off, everything is accessable.

Yes I have the fairing off the bike - obviously I need to think this through a bit more.
I'm just having a hard time getting access to the two bolts that hold the instrument cluster on, as they come from "behind".
Trying to access the "front" I thought would be via pulling shroud that goes around cluster off - but although undone all I could see it still feels like it is held by something.
I'll spend some more time looking at it with vigorous intent I guess and hope the brain sorts the solution in a moment of clarity  :dash2:

same here, can't access the upside down bolts holding the cluster, everything is off the front.. did not see the solution here so if anybody knows please let me know, all i want to do is find a way to stop the rattles coming from the cluster.

Can't help with the removal, unless maybe the right size of flat ratchet wrench will do the deed.  Pick one with lots of clicks in it, so even a small movement will get things turning.  Some of these (the cheapest type) wrenches have very coarse "gearing," needing a lot of movement between clicks.  Reverse the ratchet action by turning the wrench over on the bolt head.  Some are full-length wrenches; these are the stubby type.
