FJ Owners,
Interested in buying a pair of '86 FJ1200 Mirrors in good+ condition.  The reflective coating on the glass reverse side of my mirrors is damaged.  My bike obviously spent a lot of time out in the elements and the mirror quality is poor.

Not expecting perfect or like-new condition but mirrors not nearly as degraded as those I have.

I'm located in Georgia (about 20 miles south of ATL).

FJ Owners,
Having heard nothing here.... I found some REPOPS available in Europe.     Reasonably priced I hope they are of nice quality.   I cant see worth a darn out of mine so I have to do something quick to ride this bike safely.
I would have preferred to line the pockets of another FJ enthusiast but I can't wait any longer to get these replaced.

I'll let ya'll know if the quality is good on these.  Originals are still available from Yamaha at $120+ each so this seemed like it was worth a try. with both for a bit less than $100 shipped.

Kurt, original mirrors for the 86/87 year in good condition are rare. Add to that, many like myself got tired of seeing my elbows. I put after market CBR mirrors on with excellent results. But if you really want/need the OEM look then I hope your purchase meets your needs.

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I received the aftermarket/re-pop mirrors from the UK.   To describe these as disappointing would be a severe understatement.   TOTAL GARBAGE!

The actual mirror head is an exact duplicate of the OEM.  Unfortunately, the stem and mount are not even close to OEM design.   The stem is shorter, thin, and misoriented.  There is absolutely do way to see anything with these and they stick upward like the ears on a Doberman Pincher.   YUK!!!     The thin stalks don't allow a proper seal with the OEM rubber boots either.

I would post photos but not able to at this time (at work) and I don't even want to take the time to re-install them for that purpose.   Purchased from the UK, return shipping charges nearly exceed the refund value so these will just be tossed in the trash can.

DO NOT BUY THESE MIRRORS ADVERTISED ON EBAY.   TOTAL TRASH!

I thought it was worth the risk as a set of re-pops for my FZR were exact duplicates and look just like OEM.   Unfortunately, that was not the case with this set.

Showng my ignorance here, what are REPOPS ???

Never heard of them and can't see a reference to REPOP on the eBay listings - either way though, I'll be taking your advice and avoiding them  :good2:.

Repops are what we call after market . They are made to look like factory equipment. Some can be good and others can be total garbage

Aftermarket CBR mirrors you say? I think I'll have to look into this myself! I bought a pair of mirrors a few months ago with intentions to put them on once this riding season came around. I should have paid closer attention because when I went to put them on a few weeks ago, I realized that they were side mounted mirrors and not front mounted mirrors like we need.

FJORD

Are there any CBR mirrors or equivalent that would fit a 1990 FJ1200?
I would like to see more of what is behind me and less of my elbows.
It would be great to have some part numbers if anybody have already done the research.

I still say the best use for 86 mirrors is putting them on an 89.

They look very nice on your bike! Man, I wish my front main fairing looked even half as nice as yours does.

Thanks I picked that fairing up on fleabay. Just have to keep an eye out. They do come up once in awhile.

Don't know if the 86 mirrors work as good on later years than 89. But they are perfect, they look totally stock. It lays them flat and gets them out. So you can actually use them without tucking in your side. + They don't. Look like bug eyes anymore.

No problem! I'll have to watch out for a good main fairing and a pair of compatible mirrors. Yeah, your mirrors look very natural on the bike.  :good2:
