'86 FJ1200 Choke Replacement

Hello everyone! 

I recently ordered a replacement Choke Cable Assembly through RPM for my 1986 FJ! I haven't purchased a repair manual yet, but it seems like a straight forward job. The only thing I'm wondering is if the front fairing/cowl has to come off to remove the old one and install the new one? I know the tank and the side panels will come off, but I'm not sure about the rest. I did some digging on here and read through the user manual, but couldn't really find any clear indicators as to whether or not that is required. I'd rather not if I don't have to, haha.

Pop the small cover off of the filler panel right below the choke knob and you and get to the nut that holds it on right there.

That sounds easy enough. When you refer to the filler panel below the choke knob, you mean the raised plastic piece that also surrounds the fuel reserve switch?

Well, I would call the long piece the filler panel as it fills the gap between the tank and the fairing, but yes I am referring to that little switch cover. Pop that off and it is under there.

Excellent! Thanks for the information, I'm excited to install it tomorrow after it arrives! I'll probably post a few pictures of the process to hopefully help someone else out in the future, should they be wondering the same thing.

I want to thank you for your helpful information again! I received my new choke cable assembly from RPM today and I installed it. Works like a charm! I started to take pictures of the process, but I decided "Screw it, I'll just make a video!" And so, tonight I made my very first "How To" video on a Choke Cable Assembly replacement for the 1986 FJ1200! I may do a tad bit of editing on it, but I'll try to get it up by tomorrow night and hopefully find a good place on here to post it where it can hopefully help other FJ owners out in the future.
