Hi Folks

New here, new bike, missed my old 3CV and now have just bought a modded 3XW and would like to know what you think these forks and swinger are off. Seller didn't do the work and said they were from an R1 but I can't find that brake caliper in any R1 pics. Might be R1 with different calipers? Or are they off something else? I took the pics in a rush in cramp conditions, sorry they aren't a bit better. Pic of top yoke too just so you get the full picture.

Many thanks

Chaz

I might be wrong, but that swinger looks a lot like Pats T-ace swingarm?

Good eye Ryan, I was thinking the same.....but the 97/98 YZF1000 (aka Thunder Ace) had a conventional front fork, so maybe the back came off a different bike from the front.
Here are the specs on the YZF T-Ace rear swinger: http://www.fjmods.co.uk/MarcRittner.htm

I have no idea where those front forks came from.
The axial mounting of the brake calipers puts the forks pre 2005. After '05 it seems that most USD's had radial mount calipers....speaking of caliper mounts, I would like to see a better picture....something looks weird, I don't see a lower support arm on the caliper.

Cheers

Thanks for the input Pat, Ryan, I'll get a better shot of the front brakes up here hopefully later today. Hopefully "weird" doesn't end up meaning it's been cobbled together/bodged.

My 93 yzf 750r had six piston calipers like that. Can't remember the swinger but I think it had that adjuster.

More pics of front and rear. I got out between rain showers! Hopefully these are clearer and make identification easier.
Thanks

Thanks Chaz, yep, the back looks to be a TAce but the front....hmmmm
I know it's not the FZR or the YZF750 USD's because I have those USD's

If it were a 2003 Yamaha R1 front end it would not have Tockico 6 pot calipers, but gold spot mono blocks.

So.....the axial mount Tockio calipers puts it at pre 2003 the large diameter front axle makes it.....

I think it's a Suzuki....but I can't match it up with the factory photos.

I know 2 Suzuki USD experts, Dan and Fred, what do you guys think?

I think I found them, they look to be Kawasaki ZX-7R forks with an aftermarket fender.

Thanks Pat!
Would/should these have been re-valved for the extra weight of the FJ?
As an option are they ok?

Yessir, and Roger Wilco. I usually grab a quick nap before departure and crack the visor a tad. The new Pirellis make for a little adrenaline boost as well.

A quick browse shows the ZX7r adjustable USD and 6 pot calipers ran from 1996 until 2003.
According to the Race Tech website the stock ZX7r fork specs for those years show the fork uses a .85kg/mm spring.
You should be ok for solo riding (how much do you weigh?) but in my opinion too light if you carry a passenger and luggage.

I have .95kg/mm springs in my USD's and I think they are perfect for solo with luggage.

The big question, how do the forks feel? Set your sag. If they feel good with no excessive dive, leave them alone.

Throw some rain or fog in the mix and you will have the perfect trifecta, wet roads, new tires and fatigue.
