Oil weepage with RPM cooler, normal?

I recently installed the RPM oil cooler kit, and I've noticed some light oil weepage on one of the fittings. It looks like there is no gap between piece 1 and piece 2 on the A/N fitting (see picture). In the installation instructions, I notice what looks to me like a 1/16" gap between piece 1 and 2 on the fitting. I've examined other A/N fittings and at least on the ones I've inspected, there's a gap.
Could this be why my fitting weeps? Or is this acceptable behavior with these fittings?

Over torqued aluminum AN fitting is the most common cause of leaks.
The oil cooler instructions are very clear on how to tighten these fittings.
Call Robert at RPM on Monday and get a new fitting.

We use oil on the hose and fitting when building them.  This prevents the tearing of the hose and galling of the threads. It is impossible to get the oil out and it seems out when the oil gets hot and flows out.

Spray it with a little brake clean and clean it up. You should see the seepage slow and decrease with more heat cycles.

Thanks for the reply, Randy. It does appear to be motor oil, and not oil used during the hose assembly. The color is red (Motul's synthetic blend).
Per the instructions I did not tighten that part of the fitting; It came assembled as is currently installed. I have to imagine the seepage might be turning into a couple drips at higher engine RPM's?

There is no oil present at the joint, so for oil to seep out there would mean it would have to get past the compressed hose and then the threads to leak out of there. If it is seepage, it is usually because the oil we use to assemble gets pushed up the threads when tightening.

It could have a red hue from the anodizing wear when the threads are assembled.

There is an o-ring seal between the red & blue portions of the fitting.

The two places for the fitting to leak is there or at the fitting where it tightens onto the cooler.

Spray is down good with brake clean, run it a little bit to get it to temp. Use fans to keep the engine cool. Try not to ride it because the wind blows the oil everywhere. Then rev it fairly hard several times to see if you can see the leak or get some oil to start pushing out.

Then I would powder the fitting to confirm where the oil is coming from. The powder will show where it is seeping from.

If from the thread-on fitting to the cooler, tighten it up.

If from between the red & blue sections of the fitting let us know and I we'll get a replacement sent out.
