Hello,

Name is Justin and I am 20 years young. I am from NJ right near Philly.  I want to say I am the original owner of a 84 F1100 w/ 48.5k miles, but that would be impossible. haha. However I can say this is my fathers bike, and he bought it brand new way back when. Bikes been all over the place and my father loves this bike still (I know he does). Its the reason why I ride too, I grew up on this bike. I remember him telling me how this bike was ahead of it time and how different it was in its day.   Anyways he bought a hayabusa a couple years ago, and gave the Fj to my brother-in-law who rode it in the summer time. Well he just got a nice HD nightrain and needed the old FJ gone. Well, let's just say my small garage now has 2 very good looking bikes in it now. BTW I ride an 07 ducati monster 695. But I have taken the old FJ out before and its def. fun to ride. and my favorite part is it comfy. I would really like to restore this bike and give it back to my father. Get the plastics repainted, Powder coat misc stuff, clean it up, upgrade the front wheel and brakes. (fzr1000 wheel and r1 caliper)

Now the bike needs work and it was taken for it whole life. but afterall it is 5 years older than me. Stuff wears out. Fork seals leak, its cold-blooded, needs a battery, plus other stuff Im sure.

This I why I am here. Looking for info and upgrades. PLace seems like a good forum. Ill def. be lurking and learning new things. I was wondering is there any FJ specific online vendors? Where do u guys get replacements parts...ebay? Stuff like that.

TIA,
Justin

Welcome Justin
Glad to see not all 20 year olds want the new cool stuff, there is some cool old stuff and the FJ definitly falls under the old but very cool.

What a cool son. We will be happy to help. What you first need to do Justin, is to establish a budget.
After that we will help you with where to go, what to do, and in what order....
Your dad has good taste, '84's rock. Take a look at mine on page 4 of the bike gallery. Is this what you want?

Welcome young man.

Yea I think he would like it alot. He's deserves it.
Budget: This is tough, money is tight but I have funds to play with. Its the time and space that kills me. (and him). We, mostly I, have other projects going. The "plan" for this is to be on the back burner. I will end up gathering parts and more importantly learn about working on this bike, ect. Having plenty of time makes the budget part easier on me.

Yes your bike is very nice and tastfully modded. That would be a good direction to go in. haha. I like the black CC exaust. That was on my list and now seeing it, its a definite. It has a vinces and hans on it now, and needs to be re-finshed anyways. But thats minor and more importantly could be done in the end. Is ur engine p/c? that looks really sharp. The whole bike looks new. I would love to tear it apart and have the frame painted, engine re-built, ect. But thats out of my "budget"

I think it would be a good idea to get the wheel, fork, brake upgrade done first. Gather parts, ect. Then focus on getting it running good and during all of that, also focus on the asthestics.

Thanks,
Justin

OK Justin, let's get you over to the 3 sections which will help narrow down your focus and get your answers quickly;
1) Maintenance 2) Modifications and if needed, 3) the FJ Running Problems sections.

Nope, no powder coating the engine for me, waaay too much work. After a wire brush prep, I used a 600 degree Black Satin engine paint, then heat cured, easy peesey. Paint stripper on the shiny side covers to remove the knackered clear coat then a buff and polish with Semichrome polish.

We have some more info. in the above categories for you to peruse.
Again, be sure to post your questions in the appropriate sections so folks can see them and get back to you with their suggestions.

Take a minute of your time and take some pictures of the bike to show us what you're starting with. It's gonna be cool to see your progress and the end result. We love success stories.

We have found that when properly set up,  FJ's offer a tremendous bang for the buck. A few mods and you're running with the big dogs, and laughing all the way to the bank.

Do be careful with the mods. The disease is called "moditis" and as you can see from the world wide participation on this forum,  there already several chapters formed of Modifiers Anonymous.....

Thanks for the kind words on my bike.....Later.
