Hello and G-Day,

My Street Tracker "Greyspeed" project started last week.

the design goal and the list of the favors I have chosen are done

now it's about realizing it in reality, For this project my FJ Enduro project has to wait

I realized that the original rear frame not usable for my project,
The tubes like newspaper sheet.

Now I build a complete new one that exactly fit to the Tank and Seat

But first I want finish the front with 17" wheel 320mm disks, FJ1200

Brake calipers and short fender.

andyoutandabout

ALRIGHT project on.
Firstly, don't chop the front bits off the frame. Someone did that once. I don't know what became of them or the bike, but I don't recall hearing from them again. (anyone know?)
Secondly, good for you, joining the ranks of the experimenters and Trail Blazers.
Thirdly, best o luck. The world awaits your genius.

Forthly, even though your screen name suggests you are Australian, your location has you in Germany. To wheel out the famous stereotype; Germans are great engineers, you should make an awesome job of this build.

jep, I am german and live in Germany, unfortunately. But australia is the home of my heart and soul. I been there many times but have missed the time to stay there forever. but this is a long story....

I drove around australia, some times from north to south and back. up and down the west coast, through the desert via CSR, Great Central, Holland track and some more...

about the bike:  I dont cut anything on the frame, Cutting or welding on the original main frame is not allowed in Germany. this requires a special license.

everything that is installed or changed on the bike must have a certificate otherwise the operating permit (RWC) expires.

All changes must be entered in the vehicle documents by a test center (TÜV).

the original fairing from the 1100er get back later on, with small changes. for the RWC, I put on Street tires first, on the second set rims I do Tracker tires Heidenau K73 for Fun...

Regards Frank

Neat project Frank, good instincts on not cutting the frame.

As Andy mentioned, I wonder if fjman is ok?

If the USA had the same type of registration and modification laws as across the pond, hot rodding might never had got started.

GAhhh European law. Here in the states I've had immense fun modding away as budget allows. The FJ has been hugely improved and rides better than the day it left the factory. I bought a bike in the UK to spin around Europe and the Isle Of Man. Of course, one instantly thinks of making some improvements. First up was the idea of better brakes and getting rid of it's 1991 ABS. But hold up, the log sheet says it's ABS and ABS it must stay, even if modern hardware would make for a way sharper system. Euro motorcycle law must have been written by those without any knowledge of motorcycles whatsoever.
Be careful not to fall foul of legal bullshit.

Hi, after a lot of Drinks, Meals and Family Stuff during X-Max and New Year, I can get back to my Motorbikes. I try another fender for my Project.
I Cut a Metal fender in half from an old bike, locks good, only needs a bit paint job, I change all screws into black once.
Also Engine and all Frame parts will get a black paint. But will take time, I found a 1200 3CW and now I must change al brackets for fix the 1100 fairing on.

Some will disagree, but the FJ should have had a black frame from the factory. I sprayed mine with truck bed liner and I think it looks ace. The finish has stood up well for a couple of years now. Other bits also got the truckbed liner treatment, like the foot peg hangers and any anything that was a pain to keep clean. The only problem was the swing arm finish. Chain lube lifted the bed liner paint, so I don't recommend it for this area.

+1... and with a silver engine IMHO.

+2 on the black frame. A little less black than Andy. And silver engine on Frank's looks good, but too much work.
But a black frame is a must.

Blame Yamaha's decision for the silver frame on this:

I would be surprised if Frank decided to paint Stormy's frame black.
