check your valve stems

                                                        I took a ride this afternoon up Geiger grade and on the way up it felt like i was working to hard to turn so I took it easy .when i got to the top i checked my tire pressure and it barely registered.Then I noticed the nut holding the valve stem was a couple threads from falling off.Only the tire pressure (of which there was very little left) was holding the stem in place.MY stem doesn't leak now after I tightened it but does any one no how tight to tighten them.I realize you couldn't get o torque wrench on it anyway but is there a danger of getting it too tight.

Travis, I think blue Loctite would be your friend there.

That wouldn't hurt.I am worried about if i can get it tight enough while the tire is mounted.At a certain point the stem will spin when the nut is tightened.

Grab the upper part of the stem with pliers (tape the jaws, soft wood bits etc...) to hold it when you tighten the nut with thread lock. Then get after it properly when you mount a new tire.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

You might find that the Loctite provides enough of a lubricant that the nut will tighten without the stem spinning at the same rpm.

Yes, those 90* stems are very nice to have. :good2:

Don't do what I did.
I ordered a pair off FleaBay and they sent the wrong size (too small)

Get them from Randy, you will get the correct size for the FJ rim. Lesson learned.

I could fit a second nut on it but I'm not to worried about it getting loose again before I change my tire next week .For all I know that valve stem could be thirty four years old. I've changed two sets of tires but I left the old stems.Now I am going to order those 90 degree stems from rpm.This is the first bike I've had with tubeless tires but this is the first valve stem nut that's ever come loose on me.I think if had checked my valve stem tightness every time I change my tire I wouldn't have had a problem without using locktite or double nuts.With tube tires you have to deal with the valve stem every time.
