handle bars not centered

so i put this in the mod section because over the summer i have done a few things to the bike and just not got it on the road. concern is the handle bars are not straight while going down the road. the best point of reference i can give is the key switch sence its centered in the tree. its probably off center line by an 1/8 of and inch going down the road. bugs the crap out of me, but maybe its not a huge deal. i rebuilt the forks and i also installed a bandit1200 rear wheel < probable cause. i had the left side rear wheel spacer machined aprox 1/4" down and then added 2 1/8" spacers to the right side. that should have brought the rear wheel pretty close to center.

hears the question. if the rear wheel is not 100% perfect, will it cause the bars to not be straight?

a.graham,

Ride slowly straight through a shallow puddle of water on a dry parking lot.  (Bring your own water for the puddle, if need be.)  See if the wet tracks of your tires are offset, or directly one on top of the other, when the bike is going straight.  If there is any offset, the rear wheel mod (spacers) may need some help.  Also, if there is any offset, the drive chain sprockets may not be aligned correctly, with each sprocket pointing straight at the other sprocket.  Check both, for this alignment.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

tried this today, rear tire is too fat and pretty much completely covers front tire track. just for grins i took a measuring stick and centered the front of the wheel to the swing arm. i was able to get on finger nail down between the tire and swing arm on one side, but not the other. which also which also agrees with the direction the bars are turned going down the road i have yet to ride it to see if that did the trick. i will say if that does it, one adjuster is like 3/32nds different then the other.

Forks could be twisted in the triple. Basically loosen everything on the front end except top pinch bolts . with it on center stand get on the bike with the top triple straight. Push down and cycle the forks up and down a few times. And tighten everything back down. Plenty of videos online. Aligning motorcycle front end.
