What type pads should I buy? I bought some about a year or two ago that were cheap but they were basically useless for stopping. Now it's time to replace the front pads so I thought I'd ask which type I should get this time

Fixed it for you.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

on a 550 lb motorcycle capable of 140+mph, cheap brake pads are a recipe for disaster

OK guys. :)
I thought the lit fuse indicated disaster just waiting to happen, i.e. why pads that were useless for stopping (you mean are unless you stopped riding), are good enough to ride with for two years.

The "bomb" was the controversial subject of which pads are best. Try asking about oil and see what happens...
