Rear of tank rubber hose, or 1986 Mongrel?

I have a  1986 FJ200 according to the vin sticker.  At The rear left of the fuel tank is a nipple with a small diameter rubber hose attached that is about 9 inches long (or about 23 cm).  It is not attached at the other end, and is split.  I remember working on the carbs last year, and removing the tank a few times.  I am sure this hose goes some where, I remember that, I just can't remember where.  I have looked here, and in the Clymers manual.  In the manual it looks like the 86 does not have this rear nipple, only 89 and on.  The petcock looks correct for an 86, large fuel hose to a t fitting to the carbs, vacuum line for the fuel shut off. and electrical connection for the fuel gauge.
I think that it went to the area around the igniter, on the left side.  There is no emission controls like a California model.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Murry
If it's the nipple on the rear of the tank the hose is the fuel tank cap over flow hose
(if you spill fueling or over full fuel will run out ) it should be closer to 18 in. long and 1/4 in diameter should go down thru in front of the battery box.

Thanks Bob, that makes sense.
