The AV45's were discontinued close to 4 years ago. Even if you found a set, they will be close to their shelf life expiration.

Possibly consider Pirelli Sport Demons. Or Avon Road Riders.

The lack of suitable sport touring tires for the 16" front and 16" rear and even the later 17" front and 16" rear is why many FJ owners have converted to the 17" front and 17" rear combination.

I know many owners are diehard 'keep the FJ all original' . The problem is the tire manufacturers are dropping the FJ tire sizes and in the near future.... there may not be a choice but to convert to the 17" x 17" wheels.

Your Race Tech springs and RPM valves can be removed and installed in the late model forks.

Try Dunlop Streetsmart front. It is more rigid than the BT45 and make a good team with the Avon Ultra radial rear

The avon azaro is the only front tire I've had on my bike since I've owned it.it had a biasply when I bought ot and it got switched out day 2

I really liked the AV45/46 combo on my '86. Now with 17" front and rear I can get a set of Continental Motions for same cost as getting 1 Avon tire. They last as long and stick well enough for my riding. The 17" world of rubber has the right flavor for nearly everyone.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Well done. Our FJ is a different beast with radials
But... There are not front radial tyre available for 16" fronts. And in my 1TX the problem comes mainly from the rear tyre flexing. So a ggod combo is a rear Avon radial with the modern StreetSmart at the front. This Dunlop is miles ahead of the BT45 in streng, dont flex and I get more kms with a better profile wear (BT45 front last around 2.000 kms, but suffering odd degradation and destroying the handling after only 1.000 kms)

So next week we are going to fit this combo in my friend Mingo´s 1TX. With my actual StreetSmart front and BT 45 rear you feel even more the rear flexing, due to the fantastic and rigid front tyre

Right, Fred. But maybe he wants to keep the OE rim
Myself I want to keep STD my 1TX because I already have my 3CV moded

And I want to keep STD my 1100 because is from 1984 and there are not too many runing in Spain ... Yes!, I´ve just to buy one to have a bike in Mainland Spain  :yahoo:

Its looks as if 16"radials for the fj are gone at least I can't find them anymore.I hope my avon 16" last the summer it looks really healthy with the rebuilt forks.but ultimately a gsxr rear wheel and 17" front end swap is gotta happen eventually.
