G'Day from WA.
WA stands for Wildly Adventurous or Wait Awhile depending on what your up to.
I'm the owner of 2 FJ1200s 1 x 92 & 1x 93 - can't fathom why i have 2 but there you go.
Both in non going state at the moment but I'm wrangling with them and hope to have one going for a meeting of like minded lunatics in a few weeks time.
The information on here is terrific and many an eyestrain has been had. Will be posting for help soon no doubt
Cheers

Welcome, 2 FJs is almost a minimum now.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome from the other side of Australia. Yes as previously stated my MR Monkey, 2 is a now normal number of FJ's to own. If one is good, then more is better. I hope you get some noise coming out of your tresures soon.
There are a few FJers over your way. I saw one recently on Fakebook who's FJ has recently just clocked up 600 000km.

I hope you can get over to the east coast someday to meet the rest of the FJ family.

Hi

Thanks for the welcomes.
FJ-2 is in the workpit - coil decided to take permanent leave from work, so cylinder 1 is not playing.
Found a replacement coil in Germany on the Ebay - good price - hope I haven't been taken for a ride
Should arrive next week.

Cheers

WEJ,

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us. On the coil, switch #1 & #4. Those two cylinders fire from the same coil. If the problem move to #4 then you have a plug end or boot that is bad.

The usually don't fail since they are solid core wires.

The spark plug boot on the other hand has a bunch of small resistor parts inside.

If the problem doesn't move from cylinder #1 then you need to check the spark plug and compression.

Keep us posted.

Hello new forum member.
I agree with the feel good factor of owning two FJs.
Not essential, but certainly nice.
Never an overstatement, more a testament to the make.

Hi Randy

I have already bought some gear from your shop - great resource!
Yes I did the swap of leads and narrowed it down to cylinder one not firing,  so one side of LHS coil not playing.
Another issue you may have info on - trying to find the grommets that go on the rear subframe for the body panels to clip into - any idea where these may be available?
The problem with living in Perth Western Australia is that we are the most remote city in the world - so not all specialist parts / bits are available here.
The advantage of living in Perth is that we are the most remote city in the world - faraway from some of the madness that goes on elsewhere. Yay. Great place too, many days of riding suitable weather - though some outrageously hot days now and then (this summer has been mild though) and of course some nice roads - the "Mundaring Weir Road" is a nice ride. Many a foolish youthful fast dash was executed here!
Thanks for your interest - good on ya cobber!

Cheers WEJ

Welcome WEJ, I can relate to hot weather.... How are the beaches in Perth? Water warm, surfing good?

Good news for you...you don't need a coil. The coil either works or it doesn't. If one plug fires off the coil and the other plug does not fire, then it's not the coil...it's the plug wire or resistor plug boot....or plug itself.
A bad plug is easy to figure out.. My money is on the resistor plug boot.
The Yamaha oem FJ plug wires are *extremely durable* being stainless steel stranded core. Unlike a fragile carbon core resistor wire.

Remember, with a non resistor plug wire (like the oem SS core wires) you will need a resistor plug boot.
RPM carries some very nice NGK resistor plug boots.

The NGK's are a good value, for twice as much you can get the Yamaha oem

Wow, I'm digging the black and yellow, Kenny Roberts thing going on with the 1200. Sweeeeet.

SO (A while later - moved house did some annoying work stuff)
Coils are OK - so I've pulled the carbs off for a quick clean and come up against the float pin thing - spring loaded center punch to buy tomorrow. Read all the advice from Noel & Randy - apparently it's all about the "feel".
Trepidatious (special word) is the way I'm feeling though  :scratch_one-s_head:
Those are some beaut bikes in Albany!
Weather looks like it might be turning - who ordered all the rain and the cold?

Cheers WEJ
