So I bought this really nice clean original fj1100 at auction for 1210 bucks. Since then, I have clean the carbs well, installed 40 pilot jets, (left the 115 that were in there) I've lubed the throttle cables and replaced the choke cable. Bike starts up runs great. Speared the cat a time or two. Confirmed the presence of the ball bearing with a boroscope, (at least i hope its there) I've put a vfr800 clutch master cylinder. Rebuilt that. I've got good pressure at the lever but still no clutch. Began leaking after I got pressure from the slave cylinder I had just rebuilt. Still no good indicaton if my clutch will disengage. Waiting on another slave rebuild kit. Willing to take any input. Thanks

Welcome Samcwach, that is a good low mile bike you found. You seem to have some basic knowledge including qualifying for a rally award of Spear-The-Cat. You put a rebuilt clutch master on your '85. You also rebuilt the clutch slave. Not sure what started leaking once you got pressure but clearly one rebuild was not effective. Get that fixed. Also not sure why you think the clutch will/will not disengage. Recently a member discovered his clutch was working properly, but thought it was not. When the engine (oil) was cold the rear wheel would spin during start up in neutral. But when applying some pressure/friction with his foot the wheel would stall. Then once warmed up it would not spin. This is friction from cold oil, the thicker the more pronounced. So what other symptoms does the bike have?
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

The slave seal on top of the piston got pinched in the bore. I'm just waiting on a set of seals to come in so I can get the clutch working. The bike does run well even cold. Choked idle for a minute or two, then it goes down to an 1100 rpm idle. Would run and rev well from that idle. I haven't checked the gears yet but I assume they all work. I shoved it into first once and it lurched forward and died like it was about to take off.

If it's been sitting for an extended time, the clutch plates tend to stick together and can cause the engine to lurch and die during initial engagement.

After you get the slave fixed, try this.  Before starting the engine, put the bike in gear, pull in the clutch and rock the bike back and forth to break the plates loose.

Just a question about something that may have been overlooked.................
Was the side-stand down when you clicked the gearshift lever down into first?
These bikes have a safety switch there, that won't let the bike move if the stand is down. it kills the engine.
It is normal for these FJs to lurch a bit when going from neutral to first.
Some have developed issues with the safety switch over the years, where it thinks the stand is down even when it is not? Some have had pinched wire issues in that part of the harness (it's easy to do behind the factory oil filter housing if you're not careful).
You might have a look at that also.

So I got the slave bore and piston nice and clean. Slave is ready to get bolted up, after I torque the sprocket nut. Another's question. What are these connectors for? Right side of battery kinda looks like something's have to do with brake light. Not sure. Will keep you all posted. Also, dot 5 in the clutch master??? Good choice?? Here's the pic of the wires.

Dot 5 is ok if you flushed out all the Dot 3-4. They are not compatible. I have Dot 5 on my clutch side. Will switch over to the brakes when they are due for a flush.

yea man you just as well tear into right side pull the clutch basket out. someone either put 1 to many clutch or friction disks in basket or didn,t pay attention to how they disasmbled and got some piece turned wrong direction and you have no clearence in the clutch set. and it will blow every slave you rebuild till you get those disks stacked right in that basket!
