Hey all, i think that my bike needs to be rejetted. Here's why. After warming my bike up, sitting at idle, I'm at less than 1000 rpms (maybe 800-900), and if I'm going through a parking lot in first gear, slowly, the bike lugs pretty badly. Once i open it up, running at anything over 10-15 mph, or anytime I'm accelerating, it runs like a champ though. I know the air box has been changed out, to the 4 individual filters, and the exhaust has been changed out to 2 Supertrapp exhausts.

Does this sound like maybe the jetting wasn't done when the other mods were? (i haven't changed anything yet, that was all done before i bought it.) Secondarily, i don't know how to do the work, and don't want to risk messing the bike up quite yet. I got a quote from a shop that will dyno the bike, and rejet accordingly for $250 USD. Does this seem like a normal cost for the type of work?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ryan, have you checked with RPM yet? They know these carbs like race winning experts...Cuz they are. Many have sent their carbs in and had great reports after getting them back. The Dyno seems like a good deal as long as the jetting changes don't require altering the carbs like some kits require. When was the last carb rebuild? If you are gonna toss in some coin make sure that you don't need a rebuild. Might be a "GotYa" when they Dyno it and open the carbs for a jet change. And if they rebuild the carbs, make sure they use the RPM SST fastener kit. Makes any future carb work free from stripped out heads. I hope to meet you when I visit family in Phoenix next time.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I have absolutely no idea. How would i know if it needs a rebuild? And for sure, it would be awesome to connect with some other FJers!

How long have you owned your FJ? How many miles on the clock? Do you have any history from the PO when you bought it? How long does it sit between engine runs? Our current crappy gas is a POX on carbs. Did the symptoms recently happen or always been there? Too many questions, I will stop here.

By all means. I run it at least every few days, here and there on errands. I have owned it since may, and it has 19,228 on the ODO. The PO did give me history, but when I was going through it, i found that it wasnt even on my bike. The jackoff gave me records for a different bike. The symptoms have been there as long as i have had it. I know that our gas sucks, so i run premium fuel only, and have run sea foam a few times.

Good chat on the phone Ryan, I think you are headed in the right direction. Let us know how the rebuild goes. Then on to the electrical gremlins.
