'89 Seat ...

Hi again.  You folks are likely to get tired of seeing me here!  But I am a newbie to the group AND to the FJ.

So, let me get down to it.  I have lived a life extremely tough to my body.  I injured my coccyx several times and the last time was a fall on ice as a civilian in a parking lot.  Any sitting is painful, but long sitting is excruciatingly painful.  My chair at work needs a pad, and I can get that worked out since I ride a desk a lot nowadays.  But the bike ... aaaahhhhhhh the bike.  I ride 50 and my arse screams!  HELP!

Does anyone know of a good seat place that could maybe help me out with this?  I would like to have mine redone and sculpted at the critical pressure point.  I like the thought of gel as a base for the ... er .... cheeks.  Any thoughts, recommendations, suggestions?  I know, I know ... this post will certainly be the catalyst for many "punny" replies and jokes - so have at it.  I love humor almost as much as i love riding.  Thanks in advance!

I had really bad tailbone pain on another (non-FJ) bike that I used to own. These guys modded the seat, and I never had a problem with pain again.

Contact them, explain what you're needing, and they can probably help you.

If it's that bad, I would get into some conversations with distance/touring cyclists, seriously. They have major issues with pressure points to where it is a permanent medical issue for men particularly. Understand some of those concerns and solutions that work, not that "look" like they would work. Finally it progressed to removing the section of seat under the scrotum entirely and they ended up with two separate pads under the butt cheeks. The curved narrow horn front on bicycle seats I grew up with always seemed like a dumb idea to me.

There are coccyx cushions and they don't seem to be expensive at all. You might work one in to a seat rebuild from the pan up.

Corbin is the seat of choice for most FJ's I've been around. Never heard a bad review. They do custom work while you wait, I'm sure they can help with your issue.

As much as I like my Corbin seats, I think an Air Hawk seat cushion on your OEM seat would suit your needs. Using one allows me to stay in the saddle easily for 170 miles without stopping.

Hi Fred,
What Airhawk model did you get for your Corbin? How is the fit on the seat?

Thanks,
Rob

I think it was the Air Hawk he found down a canyon in Colorado....

3) Replace your old stock rubber brake lines.

The Airhawk has straps that go under the seat so it will fit nearly any seat.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

The Air Hawk that I found at the bottom of the Colorado canyon was returned to the rightful owner shortly before this years rally season kicked off :mocking:. I probably put 4000 miles of seat time on it while I had it. I have purchased my own, the model is the Cruiser R large. In fact, I used it today for a ride to Stillwater Oklahoma for lunch. In the photo, you can easily see the straps that Mark mentions.
