Seal, guard, chain slider.... 1984-1987

As you know, this part is listed as obsolete. OEM can't be bought anymore, but maybe I have a good news for all of us. I have found a guy in USA that is willing to make it, but he needs one original to use it as a mold. Does any one of you from USA have one on the side and is willing to ship it to http://hotfootmoto.net/store/home.php ?
This is the part number for the part in question: 36Y-22151-01-0 (36Y-22151-00).

Considering the west coast rally starts tomorrow evening i wouldn't expect a reply from him until maybe next week since he's going.

Randy has none for around a year now (only the ones for 1988 and later can be obtained). It can't be obtained from Yamaha any more. I even tried with my local Yamaha dealer and after a couple of days trying to find it - nothing.
Having it made somewhere is the only long term solution.
I don't know if 3D printing would work, I have no experience with it. But I think you also need one guard as a template? Anyhow, if I find one I will try to have it made locally in Croatia. I will contact a couple of factories that make custom rubber parts to see if the will/can make this. Or make one from a piece of PTFE or PA6 on a lathe.
This guy in USA could actually be more of a solution for all the guys over there.

I've managed to source one and only in Europe. Now I'm trying to find someone who could replicate it here in Croatia. I have bought it from cmsnl.com
I would suggest to all of you that ride these years to list this part on your wishlist on their site. https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-fj1100-1984-36y-europe-2536y-300e1_model37458/partslist/0023.html#results (part #37; even if you don't need it right away). They function in the way that if  they see enough interest in some parts they will try to source it or find a manufacturer to make it. If we show enough interest, who knows....

I'm in need of this for my 84.  Someone told me at the WCR a few days ago that the later year guide can be adapted by drilling a few small holes in the swing arm and securing it with screws.  Another thing I'm going to do is install an 18 tooth sprocket up front.  Would seem that a larger sprocket would give me a little more clearance around the swing arm.

I'm in need of this for my 84.  Someone told me at the WCR a few days ago that the later year guide can be adapted by drilling a few small holes in the swing arm and securing it with screws.  Another thing I'm going to do is install an 18 tooth sprocket up front.  Would seem that a larger sprocket would give me a little more clearance around the swing arm.

If you watch closely the later year model and yours, you will see that newer one doesn't have an indent and protection for the underside part of the swing-arm at the place where you bolt on the shock linkage. That part gets a rough treatment from the chain, as it is obvious when you check the places of the old guard where it is most damaged. So, drilling holes to fit a newer one is not a problem, the problem is in protecting that part of the swing-arm? I simply can't imagine how that looks on that point. Anyone has any pics?
Fred, I've talked with Poway regarding the part, but I managed to find one new and I opted not to risk with used one.
I think it would be prudent to utilise the will of the guy to make the guards exactly how they should be. As I saw on the site, it would probably be cheaper than the newer style guard and most importantly, it would fit on the swing-arm the way it is supposed to. So I urge someone if you have one, even in 2-3 pieces, send it over there and problem solved. Since I am in Croatia I would have some complications with customs bla bla bla to do it, and he would, probably, also.

There are no import tariffs or duty fees for items like that to be shipped to the USA on our side, so feel free to ship that new one to him and have them made, that way they are a perfect fit. We gave all the ones here off the parts bikes out back away and we tried to order them from Yamaha Japan with our last order but they said they no longer make them. We also ran a check with every dealer in North America and there are no more on any shelves here according to the database.

OK, good to know that there is nothing on your side. However, my side is giving me some troubles. Stupid EU, these things were a lot simpler. I need to do a temporary export to avoid paying customs for my thing when it returns. And to do that I need as many papers as I am some kind of world known smuggler. That's why I'm trying to find out if any of the guys in the US has any that is in good enough condition to be used as a template. If no one answers, then I will complicate a life for myself.
